Hi everyone. My son Mike is a QM on the USS Cowpens. He has been in the Navy 5 years now and served on 3 ships. He really enjoys being a QM. He likes working with the command and knowing whats going on. He has been able to wok with other Navies from different countries also. It has really been a great expierence for him and he is making a career of the Navy. He also likes traveling around the world and getting paid for it. LOL. He was on 2 deployments to the Gulf while stationed in San Deigo. He visited many places I have seen on the travel channel.

Congratulations Carla on seeing your son soon. What a wonderful time that will be.

Good Luck to all the new sailors heading to their Posts I hope they enjoy being a QM as much as my son does!

Hi, my husband is a QM on the USS Hawes and is deployed right now, I miss him like crazy! I just thought I would join this group and see what other family members of QM's have to say :)

Hello, everyone! Seems I say the same thing each time I'm on here. Mathew is still waiting for his leave date in the Great Lakes. He is going to be stationed in Norfolk, Va., and will be eventually on a hoverboat. Havent seen him since Jan. 31st 2009, missing him so very badly, however, some of you I really feel for!!! I hope I'll be as admirable when my son is gone as long as your sailors!! Take care all!!! :)

Hello, just joined, my sone Eric graduated on Jun 26th from QM school in GL. He is waiting for orders to join the Riverines. Hopefully he will get leave and come home after 7 months sometime by the 15 of July. He is now helping the instructors in the chart plotting lab until he gets leave. After leave he will go to Mississippi for short training then to Little Creek Va right down the road from Norfolk.

Kay, I am so excited for you and your son! My son is a plank owner for his ship, the USS Gridley, and we were able to attend its commissioning ceremonies in Miami in Feb. 2007 and it was fantastic. The commissioning week of the USS New York will probably be on an even grander scale. In fact, since I live just 90 minutes away from NYC I hope my husband and I can get down to tour the ship. Keep us posted. Maybe we can meet.

Tim has his orders... he is assigned to the precommissioned USS New York to be stationed in Norfolk. He hasn't found out when he will get to come home yet.

We are so excited about his ship. He will be a "plank owner" an original crew member. I hope that his dad and I can see the commissioning ceremonies in New York in November.

Welcome back, Carol. I just realized you are the founder of this group. How exciting for you to be able to be with your son soon! He is probably ready for some good down home R & R. and some home cooking, also.

Had too much fun with my sailor home. Not enough time in the day to see everyone. I drove him over to Bremerton...it is beautiful there! We were both impressed to see Aircraft Carriers from a distance....WOW! I hope we get a chance to tour one. We were both excited! A very nice Sailor came to pick my son up, I waited outside along the clock tower area. A very nice Sailor picked my son up as we waited by the clock tower. What a sweet person. What a wonderful way to be greeted to a new base. I think he will be on a barge for a while? Does anyone know about living on barges? Sounds fun to me. I and my son have always loved water. The Carriers are awesome! I wish I could join the
Navy! Everyone is sure nice.
I just read this joke in the Readers Digest:
FEw people outside the military know what a quarter-master does. So during my aircraft carrier's Family Day, I demonstrated a procedure called semaphore - I grabbed my flags and signaled an imaginary boat.
When finished, I pointed to a little girl in front and asked, "Now do you know what I do?"
"Yes," she answered. "You're a cheerleader."

Tim finished A school as a "distinguished" grad. I am so proud. He is waiting orders. We hope that he will be home for a few days very soon. His daughter celebrated her dad's grad by popping out her first two teeth on the same day!
