I'm so sorry for your family's loss. I can see your frustration also with your situation. Military families also make sacrifices related to service. Feel free to vent anytime, you have earned the right. I wish Jim a safe deployment. I was able to attend, but unfortunately all I got was 1photo of Lance after the parade. The turnout was huge and I was about ten deep. All I could see was the tops of combination covers. My husband is now tasked with bringing back some photos of the memorial next week when he is dropping off some supplies to Lance. It lies between Memorial way (the tribute to WW1's fallen) and the UW flagpole (ddedicated to WW2's veterans) It was a great Veteran's Day celebration.

Here is a local news link video

Godspeed to Jim, and thanks to all our servicemembers and vets!

Very Cool, Laura! Please post photos if you can make it. I had actually thought about trying to head over for that but my husband's mother passed away last Wednesday evening in Edmonton Alberta and we are Edmonton with the family this week. And now we deal with yet another down side of our son's chosen profession. We are trying to plan a service in BC but Jim's squadron is preparing for deployment. We either plan around the squadron and the ship or we plan around the rest of the family and he is left out. I'm just venting...

Tomorrow Lance will be in the parade which at the end, UW is unveiling the Medal of Honor memorial. The battallion is going to be able to meet some actual MOH veterans and talk with them. Lance is very excited. If I can make it there, I'll attach some photos.

You are all so fortunate to get to see your kids. I won't get to see my daughter until semester break in December. It's really hard because she is so homesick, and there isn't anything I can do. So all you moms out there, count your blessings!

We will also be at that game. It is parents weekend. It's a long way to go for us but sooooo worth it. Can't wait to see and hug my kid! I dropped her off on August 15th! Seems like a century ago.

Well said, Alaskan Mom.

Well darn. I got a text from my daughter tonight that the Admiral was unable to attend the Ball. He chose to stay and receive the bodies from the Fort Hood tragedy. While this was not the exciting military ball experience my daughter had hoped for, I suspect it was way more meaningful and profound because he was NOT there than it ever could have been if the Admiral had been present. The Navy has made my world seem a whole lot smaller. Here I sit in Alaska typing this and my family now has a direct connection to this tragedy. Tonight my prayers will be for those affected by this tragedy, may they find peace in the days and years ahead and be comforted by the knowledge that people all across this great nation are saddened by their loss.
