How strict are they about meeting the requirements? What happens if you fall below the probationary requirements? What else would be infomative that I might not know to ask?

downeastmom,

What a neat story! As far as the physical goes...I would go to the website www.serviceacademyforums.com and look at the topic DoDMERB. There is an individual who monitors the topic (Larry Mullen) who is a director at the DoDMERB. If you post a question there, he will ask you to email with your questions/issues and will personally help you. Since he has access to the DoDMERB records, his answers are very accurate and clear about your own personal case. He does not post the information publically, but will email and/or call you. In any case, he helped us to get my son medically qualified by ensuring that we gathered all of the required documentation for a rotator cuff injury my son had experienced. Mr. Mullen can help.

I have already mentioned that my son has been selected for a NROTC scholarship. But I forgot to mention how we found out, lol. He got a invitation to visit NC State for an orientation to the College of Humanities and Political Science which he had applied and got in. While we were there we went by to visit the NROTC unit, being we were still waiting to hear about his application. I am not sure what the gentlemens' rank was that we spoke to (sorry) any way he stepped out of the office and came back and shook my son's hand and said congradulations you have been selected to receive the scholarship. From than on it was like a dream. He took Travis around and showed him the war room, and telling about the extra classes, dress codes, PT, It was so much to take in. They have tutors that help with different required classes. Study hours that they have to do. Which will be great for my son. Any way we were on "Cloud Nine" the rest of the day. I was on the phone calling anyone and everyone LOL. Just wish we would hear about his physical. I had to send his medical records in because he is/was insulin resistance. I am getting very anxious/scared.

Wow, I love all the photos!! NavyMomBarb, your daughter is beautiful and so ladylike!! I'm glad all worked out for her awards ceremony.

Paulette, that is so cool that you & your family were able to be there to support your daughter as she marched on the field in her uniform. She is a doll and I'm sure you are proud of her. Nice to know that the ladies did get a chance to show out at one of the Military Ball in dress civies.

She's the really short one on the end (with a rifle).
Your daughter is gorgeous and to be fair the unit had 2 Military Balls this year- 1 the girls could dress up in civilian attire and 1 they had to be in uniform. So- you can tell her not all hope is lost :)

Love the picture...which one is she? My daughter will miss the pretty dresses and especially the shoes (you can probably tell from her pic!...my husband said "I don't think those shoes are Navy issue!) But she also loves the uniform. And don't they all look great in it...boys and girls alike!

We were in NYC for 2 days to watch my daughter who was in RPI's NROTC Color Guard at this past Wed. NY Mets game. Decided we didn't know when she might get a chance to do something like this again and went down overnight with her brothers. While I was watching her - with goose bumps of course- I was thinking to myself about so many friends and what their college kids are doing.... It sure isn't this !! What a great moment this was for us. She was so nervous.

Hi NROTC Moms :)
I'm glad some things have fallen into the right places over here. Doesn't matter sometimes what "they" say we still have to keep chasing sometimes to make sure things happen the right way ! lol

There definitely are pretty girls in NROTC (loved that comment Susan!) . Of course, once you grease back the hair and they put on their "Man Pants" ....
My daughter graduated from an all girls Catholic High School so I know it from the other side. For the last military ball, which your kids will attend, the girls were not happy that all NROTC kids had to be in uniform- that included the girls wearing their "man pants". If they could get their hands on a regulation skirt then they were allowed to wear that but it was a far cry from the guys dates who wore DRESSES and could do their hair ! That's not allowed in uniform either.
