Helomom, I went to the navy.mil site but couldn't find what I think it the new ad. I caught the tail end of something on TV the other night and that may have been it. Once I'm on the site, where do I go to view it?

Thanks!

Agreed! beautiful confident young ladies. I hope I am lucky enough to have a picture taken of my daughter at Notre Dame's Ball. It is November 6th, the night before the Notre Dame vs Navy football game!

I do recall that when my son was in NROTC, Sub duty was one of the choices - similar to Flight school. Surface warfare is the default option. Subs are very selective, and not everyone qualifies. Whoever said additional schooling is required is right - all sub officers need to go through an additional 18 months of nuke school, and not all make it through the school - very rigorous. My son was not selected after going through multiple interviews, including being flown to Washington for the final selection process. This was 6 years ago, so it may have changed.

Gale, I would think that going on a sub would be a choice not an order whether you were male or femle. As I understand it, sub service requires additional schooling at Sub Nuke School (and therefore an additional service commitment) and psycholocigal testing to see if a candidate is capable of spending 6 months under water, etc. My daughter indicated that women would be placed on the larger subs only because of the "housing" issue and all that entails. The quarters will have to be co-ed as no sub is truly large enough to have separate housing for males and females. I am sure the Navy is carefully thinking through all of the restrictions and regulations that will be needed in order for this program to succeed. I would think that the first women selected will be carefully screened as well for the same reason. StaceyO, I would like to have some information on Nuke school, too, now that my daughter has expressed interest. Do you think we should jump on to the Nuke group and start a discussion there?

My son weighed in yesterday in preparation for his PRT tomorrow and he's lost 16 lbs since the start of O-Week. I told him when we saw him that he's lost a lot of weight (as you can tell from my profile pic he wasn't heavy to start with...that was about 2 weeks before O-Week.) I told him instead of the Frosh 15, he got the Frosh -15-1, lol. BTW...he's interested in subs and thinks having women on subs is okay. :D Yay for the younger generation!

Anyone know about Nuke Sub School? My son was selected to go for an interview and to test. I know the school is in the Charleston area but we can't find any details. This was not my son's first choice but he is honored that he was chosen.
