Well darn. I got a text from my daughter tonight that the Admiral was unable to attend the Ball. He chose to stay and receive the bodies from the Fort Hood tragedy. While this was not the exciting military ball experience my daughter had hoped for, I suspect it was way more meaningful and profound because he was NOT there than it ever could have been if the Admiral had been present. The Navy has made my world seem a whole lot smaller. Here I sit in Alaska typing this and my family now has a direct connection to this tragedy. Tonight my prayers will be for those affected by this tragedy, may they find peace in the days and years ahead and be comforted by the knowledge that people all across this great nation are saddened by their loss.

So, on a lighter note... : ) My 4C daughter is currently sitting at her unit's (the University of Notre Dame) Navy Ball listening to Admiral Mullen, Chaiman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff speak. What an amazing opportunity NROTC is for our kids. God, Country, Notre Dame!

Helomom, I did see the original post, and you got to it before I could. I agree, this is not the place for any politicizing - it is a safe place to come, ask questions, get support, grieve, cheer, find a shoulder, help, etc. Needs to remain that way, and the only way it will is if we all keep it that way. No offense meant to the poster, just a gentle reminder.

Please keep the victims (and their families) of today's tragic shooting at Ft. Hood, TX in your thoughts and prayers today. I'm in shock and so sad that such a horrific thing could happen. I am thankful that my son (and all of your children) are safe. God bless and good night!

It was just a political opinion and call to action. I realize people are passionate about many things but this isn't the place for political dialogue. So ladies... I'm old Navy mom and I just reacted like an old Navy mom. Hopefully she (if indeed she was who she said she was) wasn't too insulted. I just feel strongly about the mission of this site. - Mom of NROTC graduate of UW and SU class of '97

Ahh... that's better. Just moms and friends commiserating. Navy for moms should just be a nice place for trading stories and getting together.
