Navy For Moms

We have the first group of HMs at San Antonio. They arrived 4/9/11. This discussion group will work to find answers to all questions for the new facility and try to understand the system on the Army base. Welcome to all of those who have sailors at San Antonio for HM A school in San Antonio!

Hi Moms,

My name is Shirley and my son has been in the Navy for 3 years and has decided to cross rate to Corpsman from Aviation Tech. He is currently stationed at Point Mugu CA. and is scheduled to leave for San Antonio the end of Sept. for 4 months. I hope to find answers and support from my new Moms :) Thank you, Shirley

Some of us are new to the navy but will share what we can. My son just finished Corpman A. School and will begin can. School in August for surgical tech. Well to the sites.

As I expected, these past 10 days have gone by rather quickly.  Sad to see Chris leave but, happy he will be progressing on next phase of his career.  I think he is ready to go back too.

My question is, should we begin a group for C schools in San Anotnio so we can keep up with one another?  Chris is a lone wolf for his C School (Psych Tech).

I started a discussion but not sure I did it right. I named it san Antonio - C school Corpman 2011, let me know if. Another is created ted. My son is going back on 08/08. Then starts surgical tech. Hope you enjoyed your visit. It is going by fast for me.
Hi lisa i started new discussion within the hm san Antonio group. It is named san Antonio - C school Corpman 2011.

Hi there ladies....got my son off and he is somewhere in NC.. LOL  It was a mess.. poor guy missed a connecting flight, then called Cherry Point and they had no idea who the mentor was by name nor did they even know he was coming so they told him to check in to Camp Lujuene first. hahahahahaha By the time he got another flight, I think he got in last night about midnight.  Oh boy , talk about learning lessons and figuring it out on your own.  So today he went and got his luggage since he ended  up coming in on another flight and to another airport then the original one.  I have no idea if he is in CL still or if they took him to Cherry Point,,  they had him fax his orders from the USO at one of airports he was in, they had no idea who the mentor even was that was on his paperwork.  Guess that explains why he could not get ahold of him, hahahahaha

Poor Nick. Main thing is he made it there. Did you get the pics I sent you Sunday?
My daughter is at basic. She sent us the latest info that the A school will now ne in TX. Will we be able to spend any of Saturday with her, do they leave at certain/same times? Will she let us know before graduation before hand what time so we can plan accordingly for the return trip for us home? Any information would be helpful.:)

She will go in Phases while in A school.. the phases go pretty fast and soon she will have overnights.  She will get the run down once she arrives. My son was on overnights I think within the first month.

Graduation dates will always be on Tuesdays at this point. You will be able to attend, but it is nothing like PIR. Depending where you live, most do not make it to graduation since your Sailor will be coming home right after graduation.. Now of course this can vary if your daughter has to report right away.  BUT I think almost everyone in my sons class (graduated July 26th) went home for 10 to 13 days. My son left the same day and drove home. (12 hrs away)..try not to worry....  There is tons of freedom for calls, visits and chats.  She will find this much better then boot camp!

School is tough and requires a great deal of studying!  If she wants a C school. tell her she will need to be top 10 or higher of her class to be able to choose what and where she wants.  Hope this helps.

I have a question?  If a sailor has gone through another A School and now is cross training into Corpsman, do they go through A school again?  My sailor is now a Petty Officer and it seems like everyone coming into this A-school are coming directly from bootcamp?  Anyone else out there with a sailor who has already gone through a different A-school?

Hi understanding is that they have to go thru a school for new rate.

I served 8 years and cross-rated. Yes, he/she will attend the school/training for the new rate. They should be treated as a "fleet returnee" and have a few extra privileges that others arriving from boot camp will not have, but still be required to do the same work as the others if not more. I too was a PO when in another A school and was designated as a "class leader" and had the responsibility to help manage the class. Most of the time a returnee will not be in a barracks room with other sailors from boot. Each training commands policy is a bit different from one another on "fleet returnees".
