Welcome to the Pensacola Group

As a reminder: Please don't post your Sailors First and Last name together, address or phone numbers. If you need to pass on this information, please add to your friends list, the person you wish to give this information to. Then you can send them a Private Message.
Wait in A-School at Pensacola has decreased so much. Sailors are classing up in 4-6 weeks instead of 3-6months. The Base at Pensacoa is very beautiful, so your Sailor has a great place to be on hold. I have added a link to Pensacola's web site. Go check it out. There is alot of contact information there.

Wow - you ladies have been busy. I went to see the New Moon movie tonight (which was awesome!) and had to go back several pages to catch up on the news. I've learned a lot about leave and A school. Jacqueline, I will have to ask my son about the basic electronics class -- as far as I know he has not taken it. Could this be something he could have "tested" out of? He has an electrical background. I need to quiz him -- sounds like I'm not the only one having trouble getting info out of my sailor. Sometimes I think he gets offended when I tell him "I learned this on Navy for Moms....". But best of all, he is happy (although getting bored he says) and more than ready to phase up to Phase 2. He says they are behind on paperwork - should have been first of the week, but hasn't happened yet. Thanks for all the help, Navy Moms!

Good evening ladies, I have been following for a while but have not posted. My son's pir was in Aug and he has been at NAS since then. Two weeks ago he moved over to Corry. I really appreciate all the information you ladies have, it is very helpful to all of us. Thank you so much for sharing.
Marie Claude and Georgia Hi I miss you ladies. How are Joanna and Frankie? MC I am so sorry to hear your husband is in the hospital, I will add all of you to my prayers.
I have been following the news of the murdred Sailor with a very heavy heart. She was at GL the same time as my son, and of course my prayers are also with her family.
My son mentioned today when we spoke that another female sailor was almost abducted last night right outside of CS. It is very alarming that there are so many evil people in this world.

have agreat weekend, and thank you again for the information on the area. We are planning a trip in Jan, as he will be home for Christmas.

Here is what happens when your sailor arrives in Pensacola.
First they check in and get assigned to Barracks. They should be calling you shortly after with an address. They don’t have mail call like in Boot Camp, so your sailor will have to check the mail room everyday to see if he has a package. They will start INDOC Classes pretty quick. This will teach them about all the Base rules, where to get mail, phases, drinking rules, duty, etc etc. They will have to finish INDOC classes before they will be allowed weekend Liberty. Before they class up they will have to take ATT & AWAT classes, some rates take one of the two, and some are required to take both. Your son already had his so he should class up rather quickly. They are offering them online now. If your sailor wants to get moving fast, tell them to jump at the chance to get into these classes. If they are a little more relaxed and enjoying their time, they will be a little more slack. But remember that classing up could happen at any time so they need to be ready. There is a ton of things to do there, and most will have duty watch. Then once a month they will have dog duty through the weekend. This teaches them what it is like to have duty on a ship when everyone else gets shore leave. You will hear the word muster a lot. That is when they gather and basically get a head count and make sure everyone is where they are supposed to be doing what they are supposed to be doing. They will muster 2-4 times a day depending on their Barrack Command. There is a lot of temptations at Pensacola, so just encourage your sailor to keep his Military Bearing and stay squared away. They don’t play around there, if you get in trouble, you will go to Captains Mast and suffer the consequences. And there will be nothing you can do to help them as their parent.
No matter what phase your son was at Great Lakes, he will be bumped back down to phase1. They "usually" phase back up quicker though.

Carol......LOL

Lynn.....welcome. It is very normal for AE's to attend ATT in great lakes. It is a basic Electronic course that will determine if he continues as an AE or becomes an AT. Stand down for Christmas break is 12/18 to 1/4. They have been told that chits for Christmas break need to be submitted starting 12/1. If your son hasent accrued enough leave to cover the days he will be gone, he will go in the red and have to make them up. Sailors earn 2.5 days leaves every 30 days. I am going to post another comment that will tell you a little about Pensacola life.........WELCOME!!!!!

Good evening all.....my name is Lynn and I live in Tampa. My son Damien PIR'd on 9/11 and he has been in GL attending ATT (?) school. He is scheduled to arrive in Pensacola sometime today as he supposedly flew out of O'Hare in the wee early hours this AM. He will be attending AE school. I am sooo excited that he will be closer to home for awhile, finally....he was not happy about the possibility of being GL during winter...LOL...so I am waiting to hear from him on his arrival in P'Cola. I have been reading a couple of groups for aviation A schools and if anyone can give me ANY info on A school in P'Cola, ife in P'cola, the upcoming holidays etc, etc.....it would be greatly appreciated.

Hey all. I made it home fine and in one piece...LOL

Beth....to fly on the Holiday YES you will pay a fortune. There is no way to say how long it will take to get his leave approve. But do know that they go thru them as fast as they can. It all depends on where he is in the pile!
