Navy For Moms

Our son has just been moved to ship 5. He had a case of extreme facial swelling about 18 days into bootcamp. At the same time he had the ricky crud, pink eye and of course had received all those immunizations. Because they do not know what caused the swelling they navy has decided that he should be medically discharged. Todd wants to appeal this decision. Can anyone give me some advice on how to be supportive on the outside and advocate for him? Has anyone appealed and been successful?

Ruth, I am really sorry to hear about your son. I dread the son that may return to us if he is discharged. Was your sons discharge a medical or for other reasons? When was he discharged? We are working hard and praying hard for this situation. It is a tough road to walk.

That sounds like it might have been an allergic reaction to something.....He should get some kind of counseling and for sure a legal appointment...I assume he can request a review board...be sure your son signs the waivers so that his record can be discussed with you and then you can find out from legal what his options are...but he MUST sign the waivers giving you authorization, otherwise you'll get no information at all....You can send a request to the PAO (public affairs office) to find out what your son's alternatives are and possibly other avenues that are open to your son.

I wish you good luck!
