MEDICAL COVERAGE AFTER THEY LEAVE
TAMP (Transitional Assistance Management Program) is a program that offers TriCare standard benefits to separated service members (and their dependents) for 180 days after separation. The coverage begins the day following separation, and you can then go to CHCBP (Continued Health Care Benefit Program- similar to COBRA at $933/quarter for service member, $1900 for family), The separated service member has to call and activate the TAMP benefits. That's it- just a phone call. The service member had to have served for than 30 days and the cause for separation has to be no fault of their own (like a medical condition). DEFINITELY worth looking into! Here's the info:

It is always such a difficult time when they are separated in bootcamp. Is his reason for separation one where he has a chance to re enlist in the future? I know that it will feel so good to get your arms around him---he will sure treasure that hug....and hoping that getting back home with family will be good therapy for him for right now. Please tell him that we all thank him for trying to serve his country...a very honorable decision. I'm hoping that if his dream is meant to come true, he will be back at a future date. Just saw a post recently from a lady whose son was finally back. So it does happen sometimes!
Comment by Tconn9298 on Wednesday Tconn: They should forward the mail to him until you get his new address. Prayers for your son during this time. I'm sure your mail will help alot!
Comment by wfindley on Wednesday My son has been home from ship 5 a little over 2 weeks and started having headaches, chills the last couple days. Took him to the doctor and he has Hepatitis C. What are the chances? If you know what I mean.

Comment by donnad on Wednesday My dear Navy Sisters - Just an update on my son who was on Ship 5 due to a minor injury. He arrived home Wednesday, and when that shaved head came around the corner at the airport, I couldn't have been happier to see him. Even after a few short weeks in the Navy he has changed. Ship 5 was far from pleasant, according to my son. He has told us of a couple of incidents that occurred during his 2.5 weeks in separation, but basically he wants to block that time in his life from memory.
The disappointment still lingers, as I'm sure it will for some time, that he will not be a part of the US Navy. Interestingly enough, he came home sick, had a cracked tooth, and is now on three different kinds of meds. Looking forward to an appointment with his ortho doctor to see if test results match Navy findings. Not so sure they will.
Made sure my son had an interview at the local college so that he can get past the nightmare of the last couple of months and move on with his life. He will enroll today and continue his education (which he gave up for the Navy). There is light at the end of the tunnel.
I intend to remain a part of this wonderful group of supportive Navy moms/wives so that I might be able to help those who must endure the process of separation.
Thanks to all of those who supported me during this extremely difficult time.
Comment by chris's wife ship3div233 on May 16, 2013 at 10:49pm I want to thank everyone who has been encouraging and supportive recently. It feels good to have strangers pray for you and support you. As far as my husbands status, he called me today and told me that it was a big misunderstanding and that he gets to stay and graduate with his division, as long as everything goes fine from here on out. That was definitely the happiest phone call I have ever received!! So again, thank you all for the prayers, thoughts, advice etc. My husband sounded so happy tonight, and I'm so glad he gets to continue working towards his dream. I feel so awful for anyone who has to go through something like this. Please know that all of you are in my thoughts, and I wish you sons and daughters, husbands and wives, etc., the best of luck for their future.

Check ^^that out for info on Raynaud's Disease.
Regarding him getting messed with for his religion that is not acceptable. Call legal in the am (number above) and tell them you want to talk to your son, they normally have him call back in a few hours (or a day) once you talk to him double check what is going on, then ask him if he wants you to contact your Congress man. I am normally the one to say not to do that, but messing with someone due to their religion is WRONG!
