I should take an N4M poll...
"Does your sailor call you when they get back to base?" Yes or No

I heard thru the Facebook grapevine that he got back OK...

Wow--I think I would have been so shocked! What fun.
And, yes, he DOES have to call (or at least text) you when he gets back to base!

Funny thing about the parental rules for travel: You know, "Call me when you get back, OK?" I still do that when I travel home from seeing my Dad. So my husband says, "For crying out loud! He's being trained to go to war! He doesn't have to call us when he gets back to base!"
Guess not, but it would be nice...

I think he may be able to request leave during the holidays. My son is there in a different A school and told me he is planning to request leave so he can come home Dec 18. I also have heard they sometimes are allowed leave after A school. However, we are all learning that anything can happen to the best laid plans. At least they are able to communicate with us more frequently now!

Tammy, Thank you so much for the kind words. He graduates on January 13, 2010 from "A" School in Floida. Hopefully, we will be able to see him some for the holidays, I hope! This was truly an experience for me and my husband. You would think if your child is sick, they would let you see him. NO, THEY WON'T.....

Oh, Deborah, what a horrible experience. I cannot believe that that you went all that way, you were on the base, and they wouldn't let you see your sick son. That stinks!!!
I am very happy to hear that he finally passed. I admire his strength to stick to it, keep working to overcome all that was thrown at him, until he got his Sailor cap. No one could have worked harder! But I am heartsick for you that you did not get to see him. How long will he be in Pensacola?

Good Evening Ladies, First and foremost, I would like to say "Congratulations" to all of the new sailors. Well, this has really been a bumpy road for me. Let me explain. We left early Thursday morning heading to Chicago. We were so excited. Half way through our trip, I received a call on my cell phone from my son. He states that he went into battlestations on Wednesday night, but did not pass because he became ill six hours into it and had to stop. Says he could not continue. He was taken to the hospital. At this point, I had to see my child. We came on to Chicago. On Friday morning, we went to the graduation and yes ladies, it was very nice. After graduation, they told us that we could see him for a couple of hours. So be back at 3:00pm and pick him up. Well, at 1:30pm I received a call from the Public Affairs Office stating that we could not see him because he was still sick. He was known as SIQ (Sick in Quarters). They told us we could see him on Saturday. Just be at the Naval Base at 3:00pm to pick him up. Well, we get to the base and still they would not let us see him. Says he was still sick. About this time, I am furious. I need to see my child. So we left. Sunday passed, still cannot see him. On Monday morning, we got up really early to try and see him before we caught our plane. Public Affairs was not having it. They say that visitation is only on Fridays and Saturdays. So we could not see him. We left and I cried all day Monday. At the airport, my son calls and tell me that he was out of SIQ and back on full duty. He goes into battlestations again Monday night. He called me Tuesday and informed me that he was now a sailor. God is Good. He left for Pensacola, Florida on Wednesday for "A" School. He seems so happy. I have talked to him everyday since Monday. Just talking to him makes me feel better, but I still want to see him. I received his pictures in the mail today. They are really nice......

@Marty Mc, I was sitting in the balcony also right in front of Division 340. They all looked so nice. Maybe I was sitting by you.

Just wanted to let all of you wonderful ladies know about my "graduation" weekend. I was sad the whole weekend but I thought about you guys and how happy and how much fun you was having with your son/daughter. Take care and I will talk to you later.
