Thanks for the info on A school Judyann. Yes a beautiful area his dad lives in. Yes i understand carrying all the burdens as well. I carried most of the financial burden as well-probably 90%, as well as raising him on my own. I have a fifth and sixthgrader as well and have been apart from their father for 5 years now, he does pay some but not much and i bear most of the responsibility of raising them as well. But, you are right, we are raising wonderful, independent men and woman and are extremely proud and grateful and count our blessings not our burdens!!

Skysmom--As I was shopping on one of the navy apparel websites, I saw a bumper sticker that read something like, "My child serves to protect out freedom, so your child can go to College"!!! I just had to add this comment, I couldn't resist.

Hi Jenda - Chattanooga is a pretty part of Tennessee. I live up by the Kentucky border near Ft. Campbell, KY. "A" school for my son was 9 weeks of engineering and 3 days of damage control strand classes. It's different for each job. Sailors who have a specific rate go there after boot camp. He is a damage controlman. He got stationed in Bremerton, Washington on the aircraft carrier John C Stennis. He drove 2500 miles in a uhaul up there. He just got his wife and kids settled and he had to fly to San Diego today to join the ship. He is my baby of 3 kids. Their father left when he was 2 months old. So I financially and every other way raised them all by myself. As all of you had to do. But we raised fine men and women by ourselves and we can all be proud! Blessings to you all.

Thank you, you are so right. I am an auditor for a hudge insurance company so my job keeps me busy. I just feel so old though, but Im not only in my 40's. Skylar also joined right out of high school and I was not ready for him to go his twin moved out a year earlier. I need to join a group or something locally. Im not an internet person and not into dating groups. I have friends but nothing in common with me. They are still raising there familys and no children in the service so they don't understand. My boss said she knew what I was going through because she had a daughter in College. I just looked at her. Im sure here daughter will be alot safer then our boys. They don't understand. Skylar gets tired of me calling him . So I will make sure I keep busy. I do not want my son to worry about me. I think he is scared that when he gets to a perment base somewhere I will move there. That is sad. Wow a navy seal, and deployed. Props to you mom for being so strong. I promised Skylar I would be to if he is deployed. Being Corpsman that is a big possibility. Promise though I am getting alot better than a year ago. Just really miss my boy. Oh yeah and he already wants to rejoin.

Hi Skymom, I know exactly what you are going through. My Son is a SEAL, only 21, and deployed right now. I have decided to go back to school myself, finish a degree that was put onhold so that I could raise the children, and go to law school. I have too now before I get too old!!!! It keeps me very busy and I spend less time worrying about him and focused on what lies ahead rather than looking back. I totally thought I would have had a little more time with him but he enlisted at 17 and went to boot camp the August after he graduated from high school. You did do a great job raising your son and now it is time to devote alittle bit more time to yourself. Treat yourself, try a new hobby, or think of something you have never thought of before. Blessings to you.

Hello everyone, just wanted to introduce myself. Don't know why I didn't come here when I first joined. Im a single mom who raised my son all by myself. Him and his twin sister. I had the hardest time when he joined the Navy as a Corpsman. I cried for about 5 days. His father who was never around called me a co dependant and I probably was. But that was who I centered my whole life around for so long and then it was gone. He has been in for 1 year and 3 months now and it has been such a rough ride. He got into Lab Tech school and I have gone to see him everytime I got a chance. He has grown up to where Im very proud but also trying to adjust to the fact that he is his own person now. I have realized that he is very happy on his own and now I should be also. Being a single parent it is kind of weird turning around one day and realizing you are done and what are you going to do now.??? You guys understand right. My son told me to start enjoying my life, I deserve it. But I still have this part of me that wants my son back. So sad, so sad. He said I did a good job raising him and I should be proud. I am.
