How long are guys doing STG usually in San Diego? My husband has a six year contract and he should be going to San Diego by Dec 1

Hey everyone,

Well DJ is loving San Diego. I don't get to talk to him much because he has day classes and night studying and there is a 3 hour time difference between us now that I have moved to North Carolina. He says "A" school is going good though and he gradates November 3rd. He told me not to come up for that because it really is not a big ceromony and that is also the week of his 19th birthday and he is taking that week off to go somewhere with some of his shipmates. Our Sailors sure do grow up fast!!!

April, what ship is he coming to in Pearl? My hubby is a STG1 on one of the cruisers stationed in Pearl.

My son graduated from A school on Sept. 3rd. We flew out to San Diego for the graduation. We were the only parents there. It was really nice ooout there. My son graduated # 2 in his class so he got to pick where he wanted to go from what was available. There was only one order for Pearl Harbor and he got it. Now I have a beautiful place to vacation for the next few years. Melanie this will be my first Christmas with out my son also. He has to report to Hawaii in the middle of Dec.

Hey everyone;

Sorry I have not been on in awhile,I have had a lot going on. My husband came home on R&R from Iraq and we decided to sell our house in Texas City and I have now moved to North Carolina. I really needed a change. DJ started his A school on August 31st and is really liking it a lot, but he is very busy and really do not get to talk to him much except on the weekends because of the time difference between here and there. I am planning on flying to San Diego for New Years Eve to spend with him because he really wants to go to Texas to see his Dad and all his friends at Christmas. This will be my 1st Christmas without him so it will be sad for me. Anyways I will keep in touch now that I have my computer hooked up.

Thanks for the info Deb, appreciate it. Just knowing an overview of the career path is helpful to start. I'll keep my eye here to see what the future may hold for us and hope all is well with everyone.

tmsv22 Boot Camp will hopefully a great growing experience for her.
Thank your daughter for her service to the Navy and our country.

The Discussion Forum above on Sonar Tech School will give you lots of info
on what to expect after basic.

If she is a 6 year STG AEF she will have basic, SCC (surface common core)
and ATT (advance technical training - self paced computer course) all at
Great Lakes. She will then move to A School in San Diego.

Two things we have learned (our son is in A school now): If you need to know
something or help, ask the chief: and most of all learn to have patience and understand there will be time when she is on hold waiting for various schools.
Young sailors are anxious to move along on their journey, we are challenged to keep them positive and engaged in times that are busy in school, difficult with PT or mundane duty assignments, or waiting for the next steps.

Welcome . . . you will find Navy moms at all stages of their sailors careers.
While in basic there is a site for boot camp moms, and there will very likely be a site for those who are in the same basic cycle. . take advantage of them all.
