Ingleside Base

My son Christopher is a mineman in Ingleside (or should i say was in Ingleside). The base is being closed. Right now he is deployed in Bahrain, but when he returns, he will go to San Diego. He graduated bootcamp 11/22/07 and it has been nice having him only 3 hours away. He came home almost every weekend.

Hello ladies and greetings from south Florida!

I just caught this thread and wanted to join to find out a bit more about Ingleside. My son is at Great Lakes still in electronics training and will then go on to Ingleside for the MN A school. Oh, I was so looking forward to having him closer, within driving distance. I have always wanted to visit Texas and with him there we were planning on a visit and maybe visit St. Antonio,ect....

My son Shane Graduated Boot 11/09/07 and was at Ingelside and is now also in Bahrain and from what I just got from him the base is being closed and they will come back to San Diego. We live right out side of Houston and loved having him only 4 hours away we got to see him at least once a month which was GREAT. I'm looking forword to Visiting San Diego. Hope I could help. What ship is your son on? I know what you mean about having him so close to home. How are you doing with his first deployment?

Eileen ~ Sorry it took me so long to awnser you, I have been battling the FLU :( Shane is on a Mine sweeper, I don't know what all I can say on here??? As far as his first Deployment well I'm doing ok I have my day's, I don't know what is worse Me Missing him or the thought of how Homesick he must get. Thank God for Myspace !! I usualy hear from him a couple times a week as long as there not underway. Tell me about your sailor, My our boy's know one another ??

Sorry to hear you had the flu, hope you are feeling better. Where do you live? Is Shane on a ship that starts with an A? It has been really hard having him being deployed, because I am so used to him coming home at least every other weekend. It's not as hard as bootcamp though. He bought a go phone in Bahrain so I have talked to him a couple of times, but he mostly calls his wife. They just got married 12/20/08. He does e-mail us almost every other day when he can.

Just wanted to find out about Ingleside. My son is going into MN training after Boot Camp in July 2009. Is the training going to be in San Diego too?

I asked my son where he thought the new recuits would be stationed and he said the mine ships are going to be moved to San Diego in April or March of this year, so no telling where they will go. I do know while they are in A school they are not assigned to a ship, so maybe they will still go to A school in Ingleside, then go to San Diego.

Hey Ladies,

My son just graduated A school and is being sent to Ingleside. I read up on the news, and the plan is to have the base closed by Dec 2010. I HATE that too. I am 2 hours from Ingleside, and was so looking forward to having him close enough to see, since he has been in Chicago for the past 4 months! I understand that there is also a base in Corpus. Is that true? My son has been told that he will be on a ship 3 months at a time and his first deployment is on a minesweeper in Bahrain.
Not happy!! I hate the idea of him going to San Diego too. I was there for a brother-in-law Naval graduation. Was not impressed.

The base in Corpus is a Naval Air base that houses aircraft carriers. My son is on a minesweep and after C school at Ingleside, he had a choice of being stationed at San Diego, Japan, Viginia or Ingleside. Since Ingleside is closing, his crew is going to San Diego. I guess it depends on what crew he is assigned to after C school where he will be stationed.
