Hi! Mark Larson, San Diego radio talk show host is broadcasting from the USS Ronald Reagan...he is interviewing a female who is working in the kitchen...her last name is Porter...she is a very happy, sweet girl and she is being interviewed.

Hi Amber's mom. I am Jeff's mom, Debbie. Congrats to you daughter. My son has been in 3 1/2 years now but still has 2 1/2 years to go. He is in Virginia. Do you know what your Amber is going to be yet? I am in the La Porte area. Best of luck to both of you. Debbie

Hi Debbie thanks for your reply. My daughter is going to be an (IC) Interior Communications Electrician. She will be staying in Great Lakes for A School after graduation. I have received her box, but no form letter as of yet with a PIR date. I thought it might be 10/23/09, because I have seen several other N4M's mention that their child left on 8/26/09 also and their form letter states 10/23/09. But I was reading this morning that someone posted that there is not a PIR date set for 10/23/09 it will be 10/30/09, oh well I will have to just wait for my form letter to verify that. What is your son doing? Any info you have to share will sure help get me through this. All I do right now is check this website several times a day just to see if anyone has a son or daughter in the same ship or div, or anything they have heard from them who are in boot camp right now. I know I need to get busy with other things and I keep telling my self well, when I receive the form letter then I can move on because then I can start making plans to attend PIR. It's just that Amber and I have never not talked to each other for this long, we have been so close it has been just her and I since she was 5 years old. This has been one of the hardest things I have had to do.

Hi Margaret,
My son graduates Sept. 11th and I remember being where you are when Brian left on July 21st. You won't be able to hear from her for the first three weeks but she will be fine. My son said the first two weeks are the hardest and then each week get's easier. He is so gung ho now and in good spirits as will Amber. I believe getting through this experience will make her stronger and give her such a sense of accomplishment! I live in Cypress, just northwest of Houston and if you need to talk or have any questions I can help you with, please don't hesitate to ask. I am flying out to Chicago on the 10th for Brian's PIR and I will be checking in.
The hardest part for me was the not knowing what was going on and how Brian was doing. You should get a box with the clothes she left in and then a form letter soon after with a short note from Amber with her mailing address and graduation (PIR) date. After the second week she can write and receive letters. I received my letters on a Thursday but it may be different for each division. I hope this helps. God Bless you! I will keep you and Amber in my prayers.

Thank you Carolyn, we are somewhat in the same area. I am in Katy just at the Cypress line. My daughter went to Cy-Springs High School. Congratulations to you and your son Brian, after you return please write and let me know how it was, when you get time I would love to hear about it. Any suggestions or info you have I would greatly appreciate. Where will your son be going for A School? I receive Amber’s box but no form letter as of yet. Take care and God bless you both.

If all goes according to plan, he goes to Groton, CT for Subschool (seven weeks) and then A school (four weeks)! If you go out to netc.navy.mil/nstc/rtcgl ( I have to type in Search box and click on link) There is a list of upcoming graduation dates. This website is updated regularly so if her date is not there yet, it will be. Hang in there! Carolyn

Hi Margaret,
I am back home. Graduation was awesome and I hope you can go! I cannot describe the range of emotions I experienced in the course of the morning. For sure you feel so proud of them and amazed at how well they seem to fit into the "Navy way". The shuttle I took to the base Friday morning for the ceremony was a breeze. We left at 6:30am and were in the Hall by 7am. The two hour wait was the hardest and the ceremony lasted from 9am thru 11:30am. Brian was able to leave base Friday but had to be back by 5:30pm. Saturday he had liberty until 8:30pm.
Brian was selected by his fellow recruits as "Honor Grad" for his Division! I was very proud of him and he looked so good in his uniform! They have about five different uniforms, Brian was in his whites for Graduation and Khaki/Black uniform on Saturday.
I stayed at the Comfort Inn and it was sufficient. It is an older hotel and the hotel personnel would not replenish my coffee so I would have to go each evening to the front desk and ask for packets. The shuttle made the stay there so worth it but I am sure other hotels had shuttle service too. The hotel rate was $85.00/night after discount because of Graduation.
My camera froze up just before the ceremony started so I don't have any pictures. :( I am hoping to get some from other mom who were there.
Have you heard from Amber? How is she doing? Have you received the form letter? Well I need to unpack and get ready for work tomorrow. I hope you are well.

Hi Carolyn, good to hear from you, wow you letter sounded so exciting I cannot wait. I did get my first letter from Amber on Sat. no form letter as of yet. They have been on hold waiting for her division to fill up so she did not start boot camp training until Wed. Sept. 9th, She said it is hard but she keeps telling herself to be strong. I see on the RTC page she is scheduled for PIR on 10/30/09, thanks for the info regarding the shuttle. I was considering renting a car while I was there, but I wonder if it might be snowing by the end of Oct. in Great Lakes? I really do not want to be driving in the snow....I guess I will wait to see. I am so happy for you and Brian!! thanks for your reply when you returned.

Hi All! I'm in NW Houston (Copperfield) and am looking to connect with some Navy Moms. My son Zach is coming home tomorrow for his first leave. He has 30 days here, then reports to the USS Nicholas in Norfolk. Are there any get-togethers in our area? We are retired, so I'm usually available and up for anything!
