Anyone know of services/groups that care for animals of deployed troops???

I am looking for a group or service that cares for dogs especially. My daughter is deploying unexpectedly and needs someone to care for her dog for 1-2 months in the CA area. I am here in Texas and feel helpess. If you know of anything please let me know.

There should be a veterinarian on base...maybe they know.

Thanks a bunch. Unfortunately, no vet on base. She leaves out Tuesday and doesn't even know for sure when. She'll get details tomorrow.
We're running out of time.

What about checking out the moms in CA? Maybe one of them could foster. My daughter found a foster family for her dog before she left for bootcamp so maybe someone could foster for her in that area.

Great idea! How do I find the mom's in CA? I haven't used the site as much as I should......so I'm kind of rusty.

Tracy, I would do 2 things...Find the California Moms group and also the Sailor Rescue Group. You will need to join both to post a message and then post it there...This is Tuesday...did she leave already?

She didn't leave yet. They pushed it back a day or so. So we still have time. I have decided if I can't find anyone I will have her ship the dog to me. I don't like shipping animals but that may be our only solution with such little time. I truly appreciate all the suggestions. I will sign up for those groups now! By the way, what is the Sailor Rescue Group???

Sailor rescue is a group where there are 2-3 moms that maintain a database and check the site multiple times a day to see if another mom has posted a sailor in need of rescue. Most times it is a sailor who is driving from one place to another and runs into car trouble. The call goes out to someone close by and they respond to the sailor in need. There have been moms (and dads) who have gone and picked up the sailor, taken him to a parts store or repair shop to get his car back on the road. They usually feed the sailor and make sure he is back on the road. It has been very successful. Go to Groups and put Sailor Rescue in the search box.

Wow, that sounds like a wonderful group. I'd love to be a part of it. Thanks Melinda!

Tracy, let us know if you can find a foster family.

Melinda, thanks for the group info. I am going to check it out, too.

Try this organization: http://www.guardianangelsforsoldierspet.org/

I bought a loofah dog toy from a pet store, and the proceeds from this toy goes 100% back to this organization.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

I don't know of any, but that is a good question. Perhaps ask in one of the CA groups, maybe they know of something.

Good Luck,
Dori
