Anyone with a Sailor in Pensacola for A school

Hi,

My son Aaron is scheduled to graduate on 9/11 and will take "A" school in Pensacola. We are from Victoria, TX. Where do you live?

I have a question, is it true that they are behind on classes there? Unless, it is just a rumor.

Norma, It is good to meet you. My son got to Pensacola on July 1 and started A School about 1 month later. We were told it would be longer but ended up only being a month (give or take). I live in San Antonio. I am new at this too but if I can help in any way please don't hesitate. There are plenty of us out there to help.

Hi Norma and Donna, I also live in San Antonio. Norma, if you have any questions, feel free to ask, Trent was in Boot Camp from 6/25 until last weekend, 8/21 was his PIR date. Donna, its good to know that your son only waited a month, I have heard the wait can be several months. When does your son graduate from A school?

My son was in Pensacola for A school from november 2008 untill May 2009 waiting for Aschool to start for Aviation Mechcanic, he has since graduated and is now stationed in Hawaii. I have heard that they are classing up faster now, but I think it depends alot on what your sailor's rate is. At the time my son was there, they were real backed up on his rate.You should join the "sailors in Pensacola" group. I spent 6 months in that group waiting for my son to graduate. I made great friends there and they were a wealth of information!!! They even have a chat box so you can get answers quick!!

My son arrived in P'Cola last Thurs, 8/20. He had been waiting since finishing ATT school at GL on 7/22. He actually finished ATT early but had to wait for the orders to go through. His orders state he has a seat in A school on 9/22. He is optimistic but realizes there can be a lot of waiting. I had heard that sailors that PIR'd in the fall had to wait a long time but that things are not as backed up now. He is in avionics.

Hi,

My son will be going to "A" school in two weeks soon after PIR 9/11. I heard that they close the school last year for 2 weeks do they have permission or leave to come home for those 2 weeks or not? If so, who pays for the flight?

They may have closed the school last year due to Ike. I hadn't heard anything about any closings this fall. I can ask my son if he's heard anything about any closures.

My son will be going to Pensacola next week for A school. Do you know if they close the school for the holidays and can the sailor go home or not? Probably not Thanksgiving but how about Christmas and New Years?

Norma,

I believe it all depends on where the sailors are in their schooling. Does your son have orders to ship out right after his PIR? (Grad and Go). The first part of Ian's schooling was done in GL and then he had to wait a while to get to P'Cola. He's been there a couple of weeks now and is waiting to class up. Are you heading up to GL for PIR?

Thanks for your response. Yes, I am going to GL for PIR on 9/11. He will stay just for 3 days in GL then to A school in Pensacola till end of Jan. What do you mean by class up? How long is your son going to be at Pensacola? So he hasn't been told anything about the holidays?

My boyfriend has been in Pensacola for about a week now, he graduated bootcamp Aug. 28; he said thier waiting for their classes to start...
