Navy For Moms

Just wanted to introduce myself to this group. My name is Shirley and I joined a few weeks ago but haven't posted much on this site. My son left on 11/4/09 for bootcamp in Great Lakes. It's been a rough few days for me and apparently that is pretty normal for all the Mom's on here. I should be getting the dreaded "kid box" anytime I believe. Just wondering if there was anyone else out there from the Spring area?

Aaron's Mom! Yes, there are MANY from that area!
I live closer to Beaumont - but would LOVE to meet for dinner some time. Someone familiar with the area just needs to pick a place and time - and see who shows!! I have found that the meet and greets with fewer people are more fun - because you REALLY get to KNOW the ones that are there - then expand from there! A few REALLY good friends are much better than many acquaintances!

Hi Brenda Sue.
I am having computer problems, so if you get a couple of unfinished replies from me just ignore them, I will try this again. I noticed you were from Nederland! My mother's family lived all around that area. In fact my mother graduated from Nederland High in 1948 and that is where her and my father met! They have passed now as has most of their siblings, so unfortunatley I don't get out that way much anymore. So, how long has your son been in the Navy? This is all so new to me so forgive me if I don't use the right terms as I am still learning the lingo. As you could probably guess, I am not real good with computers either, so please bare with me. I am so glad to hear that there are many of you from this area. I would love to get together sometimes and talk about our children and the Navy! I have a lot to learn!

Aaron's Mom - haha - I wonder how many mom's had to become computer savy since their kids joined the Navy.
My son is a Master at Arms and has been in the Navy almost two years. Right now he is in Seychelles (island off the east coast of Africa). He has been to Kuwait and the oil platforms in the Persian Gulf. Most of his time has been in training in Norfolk area. What does your son want to do?

We are planning on going to Old Town Spring with some other Navy moms. Right now, I think we are planning for the second week of December. I'll try to keep you posted. Just come ask me again!

Wow! Brenda Sue....I have know idea what a Master at Arms is but it sounds very impressive! I gather he likes being in the navy? My son signed up for Submarine Electronics Communications Specialist. So he will be underwater alot! I live only minutes from Old Town Spring! Please keep me posted on that. I will try to make it!

Master at Arms is like the military police. He has had some special training and he flies on "missions" and guards things - like airplanes and people.

Hi Aaron's Mom, we are in Spring as well, not too far from Old Town Spring. My son's PIR is next Friday, Nov. 20. He will go to A school in GL as an EM for the reserves. Looking forward to graduation.

You must be about to burst at the seams! I know I will be when my son gets that close to graduating! What is an EM?

I can't wait! An EM is an electrician's mate.
