Boot camp is the only graduation we attended as we are so far away. I do remember asking and some family do attend the ceremonies (again, not sure on the specific class Zach is attending). If it's open to family and you can attend, I say GO! I will be a great opportunity to share in his achievement. He should be able to provide you more details once he gets there.

Hi Maralice. I don't know what school your son is attending, but my son has traveled for different schools, staying in a hotel while there. He didn't have to rent a car though.

Hello all....I am new to this group and I am just trying to find out info about the logistics of the school.....my son is coming from his duty assignment in hawaii and will be staying at a hotel and renting a car while training at Jacksonville, Florida.... Does that seem typical? I am not sure! Any insight on the course? Graduation? Do parents attend ceremony? This would be first course we could attend since graduation from Basic......thank you!

I don't think it occurred to my son in the beginning that he might have to do something other than jump out of helicopters into the ocean to rescue people! But they can't sit around waiting for a rescue situation to show up, they have to be trained to do a lot of other stuff. The "jumping onto the ocean" bit is just the fun part.

congratulations to all of you on your son's PIR!!! Pensacola is the next step and it's a big one. My son thought it was one of the hardest things he ever did but he loved it there. Took up surfing at the beach on the weekends! They will work very very hard but will enjoy this part of their training! Support them well, moms! It will be easier now that you can communicate via phone. I remember the best way I found to communicate with my son was to text with him. When I called him on the phone, I got one word answers. But when I texted him, he got downright chatty LOL! I guess they are all different.

Good luck to them! Let us know how they do! Jon's group started out with 40 men. Out of that only 18 graduated together. Some dropped out, some got moved back to other classes, and so on. They need to focus hard. The failure rate is about 60-70% at this stage. Good Luck!

I have sent 2 boxes in the last two weeks. First week, I sent it out on a Monday - with overnight delivery - via UPS. He received notice that it was there on Thursday of all days.

The next week, I sent another package on a Monday - with overnight delivery - through the post office. He was notified, again, on Thursday that it was there.

I used regular boxes. Today I took the box that came with his stuff from boot camp and sent it with his civilian clothes. It's for delivery next Monday - which most likely means he will get it on Wednesday next week.

Hi Richell. When my son went through PIR he told us not to bring his laptop and stuff because he couldn't have them until he got to his A school. So from GL he went to Pensacola and then we were able to ship him his laptop, cell phone, ipod, civie clothes, etc. Used the clothes to pack everything really well in a moving box. Just make sure to get insurance on it with the laptop and such.
