Navy For Moms

forgive me if this is a stupid question or if it's been covered somewhere, but I've been wondering...Is there a difference between Search and Rescue Swimmers and Aircrew Rescue Swimmer? Or are the terms interchangeable? My son just graduated boot camp on 10/2 and is in Pensacola awaiting ACCS to start.

Alaina it is my understanding that AIRR, is attached to a squadron and SARS is attached to a ship. Both are the same thing just different as far as Air or Ship...... I really don't know if this is correct or not. I hope that someone can explain it a little more in detail. I hope you are doing well. Take care, Debbie
Good question, Alaina. Could one be SpecOps and one not? I'll ask my son the next time he calls.

This is what I was wondering! My son entered the navy is hopes of being AIRR, but due to bad decision making, got booted from the program in Pensacola. His contract changed from 6 years to 4, and he became an undesignated seaman, no longer an airman (His stripes changed from green to blue). He was assigned to a ship, and became a Boatswain Mate. He was recently asked to go to SAR training when they return from deployment. The SAR swimmer curretnly assigned to his ship told me that he went though a different training process than the AIRR swimmers that enter from bootcamp.

My son isn't sure if he is going to pursue this, as he recently got married, is deployed so just wants to return to SD, and isn't sure what the SAR path is at this point, or how different it is from AIRR. And since they are deployed our communications are not what I would like (He is horrible at answering questions in an email!)

Can any of you fill me in?
