Hello!  We just found out that our son has soft orders for Kings Bay and will be  on the  USS Alaska, Gold Team.  He graduates 02/15 from A school.  He was a little bummed that he didn't get his first pick but we are happy with his orders to Georgia as we live in Ohio and it's a lot easier to travel to Georgia versus Hawaii!.   This is our first son and we are so excited for him as he begins his active duty career.  His brother will leave this July for Great Lakes so we will have 2 in the Navy! HOOYAH!  Just wanted to introduce myself and see if there were other new sailors getting ready to report to the USS Alaska.

Tonya-On the submom page there is a link to the omsbudsman registry, if you click on that link it will take you to a place you can notify the ombudsman.  I believe your sailor will have to put your name on a list which is given to the omsbudsman. As far as the half way boxes I contacted the ombudsman and she informed me she doesn't do the half way boxes a different area handled those, so I didn't worry about those.  I try to do the mail drops if they have one and what I did this time when they went out on patrol I immediately contacted the ombudsman and ask her if I could send the package to her so it would be there on time if they had a mail drop.  I couldn't tell you if a mail drop happened or not.  The first patrol I was notified of the mail drop and when to have the package to a specific address. Do to the mail time I am unable to meet the quick reply so I found this to work the best. Also, when my son went on his first patrol he told me before he went out if something happened to "any of his family" not to email him with the information. He said he didn't want to know until he got back. It sounds harsh but there isn't anything he could do anyway. I'd talk to your son about this stuff before his first patrol. Birthdays are tough -my son had his 21st Birthday out on patrol I spent the day thinking of him.  Good News--I received notice that he received his dolphinsl!!

Hi Tonya. My son is on the gold crew also and this will be his last underway. I wasn't successful finding an ombudsman either but have sent 'goodies' for him to the wife of one of his buddies and she's been kind enough to get them to the right place for me. I'll contact her to see if she can offer any insight for you.

My son just arrived in Kingsbay. He's on the Gold Team. I've read all the articles at the bottom right of the submarine page. I'm trying to get my address added to the Ombudsman email list to find out about the Half Way Box. I looked at Command Hierarchy and but still don't see who I should contact. Any ideas?

FINALLY heard from my son today - first communication since they left.  Just wanted to share that everything is going well for the Blue Crew in case others haven't been hearing anything either.
