Happy Monday! :-)
I heard through FB chat that they did pass INSURV, but haven't seen anything official yet. And I read somewhere that there were Australians there visiting Japan. LOL! Boys! For me it's always little pieces of information wtih no details...It's like putting together a puzzle with all the bits and pieces!
Sharon, I'll be curious to hear what reserves is like.
Tina, can't wait to hear baby news!!!!
aw, sharon, so sweet! glad you notice the changes. i'm sure it's a little more comforting knowing he is state side now.
i thought i read somewhere that the INSURV was over and they passed??? hunter said he was with some Australians??? not really sure if that means that is where they are, or just met up with some. i don't really need to know where they are, just wondering.
tina, exciting for baby arrival!!!
have a wonderful week, all!
Comment by BHappy (Sharon) yesterday Good Morning,
My son was with Tina's son and Marianne's daughter so it is fun to follow both of them along...met them on the Tiger (Gator) Cruise in 2010.
Tina, eagerly awaiting baby news here!!!
Danagagirl, they DO get very busy with INSURV.
Have a great day everyone.
ps. Steven will be going back to San Diego soon to sign up for the active reserves. One weekend a month and some amount of time (1-2 weeks?) a year. I will say he left a "boy" and came back a "man" for the most part...:-)
Comment by danagagirl yesterday Good morning everyone.. .I hope you all have a blessed week.. not sure of how the schedule works for insurv but I hadn't heard from my 'baby' in a few days.. I will keep the thought that no news is good news..
Comment by Tina -- James' mom on Monday Myersboy, I too an alumni. My son and Marianne's daughter were on the Essex together. Katie was the ONLY reason that any of us knew any thing!!
We will have final baby plans tomorrow!!
welcome, myersboy! my son is currently serving on the BHR, he, too started on the Essex. my son is not much of a talker, either, i love the time he does email or skypes, or fb, or whatever!
these ladies, current and alumni, are WONDERFUL!!! i love them all!
marianne, thank you for sharing. katie is doing some pretty cool stuff!
Comment by Myersboy on Friday Thank you all. I am so relieved to hear that we can still communicate. That was my biggest fear.
Comment by BHappy (Sharon) on Friday Good Morning,
Myersboy, I am alumni also. My son spent 2 years on the Essex and 1 on the Bon Homme Richard after they did a hull swap. Our son was not one to call home much but did keep in regular contact by email and/or Facebook. Calls, Skype, Facetime, etc are available at different times best in port where they don't have to share a computer or wait in a line to call, etc. Welcome to the group. Marianne is right, go to the website and you can sign up with the Ombudsman and get regular emails if there is a change of importance and various other information.
Have a great day everyone!
Comment by MarianneKT's Mom on Friday From my experience over the 3 years that Katie was on the USS Essex/USS Bonhomme Richard, I can only remember 1 time in particular that communication was cut by the Captain. That was around the time of the Tsunami aid....when they left in a hurry from Malaysia to aid the Japanese. Other than that, the sailors have access to computers for emailing via their navy.mil acct while at sea. We heard pretty regularly from Katie.
We sent her packages regularly along with emails, etc.
Myersboy, have you contact the Ombudsman so you can get any updates and communications? There probably is an official FB page. They ship is part of the 7th fleet, and there's a website for them as well.
Maybe some of the other ladies that currently have sailors on the ship have some other ideas as well.
