Comment by BHappy (Sharon) on Friday Good Morning.
Cathy, it is a lot of miles on that car. My sister bought it new, we bought it from her, Steven bought it from us... now people are standing in line to buy it from him. LOL I think it will end up with our oldest daughter and no doubt my grandkids will drive it. We have been strict about the servicing, I think that is the key.
Kyann, no the beach is not warm year round. The weather can be lovely, but the water is NEVER warm. :-) It is the only beach you can drive on in CA. There are a lot of sand dunes and people like to do that but the draw is you can drive onto the beach park you vehicle and practically have your toes in the water. AND it is so cold, that is all you probably want in the water! LOL. It can be almost dangerous to walk on the beach durning the busy season on weekends as you can imagine but it's just a 3-3.5 hour drive from our home so a popular place for us. About 300 miles north of San Diego where the water temps are maybe 10+ degrees warmer and the weather is almost perfect.
Well, that's lots of boring facts... LOL Have a great day everyone. :-)
WOW Sharon...that's a lot of miles on that Honda. I've heard they are good for high mileage. I have a Toyota Camry and have heard the same about them too. Hope so...as I have 135,000 miles. It would be GREAT to get another 100,000! Good luck with the car shopping. Enjoying the updates on Steven!
Take care!
happy hunting, sharon! :-)
thanks, marianne, for the definition. there is so many terms for me to learn.
sharon, i love the beach pics. is that beach warm year 'round?
have a great day, all!
Comment by BHappy (Sharon) on Thursday Good Morning everyone.
Good to hear the news about Katie!
Cathy, Congrats to Josh!
Steven is eager to get his first call and work day at NCIS. I believe he actually misses some aspects of the Navy, he has even "more or less" admitted that. I am a little unsure of the exact conversation with the Recruiter about the NCIS position. He told Steven it could possibly work into full time. How? I am not sure and either was he. This particular recruiter did a stint as enlisted, left active duty, was in reserves, then went back to active full time and will retire with the Navy.
The apt. he was possibly going to share did not work out. Apparently it was his buddy's idea and his fiancee was not on board. :-) Steven's GF works with special ed kids via a nearby school district. She will be done for the year this Friday. They plan to go to SD to look for their own place sometime after that.
He has filed for unemployment but has not received it as of yet.
Post 911 GI bill being processed.
Lately his desire has been a new (new to him) car. We spent the entire afternoon (me, dad, Steven, GF) looking. He has never made such a purchase so it is good to have advice and he requested that we come along. :-) The car he has now we got from my sister. It is a great little car but OLD (1994 Honda EX Accord) and he is right to be concerned about going over the grapevine to and from SD. It has 235K miles on it. Anyway, we will see how it all works out. So that is the update for now...
Have a great day everyone.
Comment by MarianneKT's Mom on Thursday In the Navy it is common practice to frock a newly selected Petty Officer. This frocking is similar to that of an Officer in that it allows the frocked individual to assume the duties and responsibilities of the next higher rank without receiving the pay for a period of time.
In Katie's case, when she became an E-5, she assumed all the responsibilities, but didn't start receiving the pay for an E-5 for several months. Just like the others, she could 'upgrade' her uniform to reflect her DC2 status.
another term i need help with. what is a frocking ceremony? thank you!
Comment by MarianneKT's Mom on June 9, 2013 at 9:51am Cathyo- Sorry to hear that Josh is sick and hope he gets better soon. Usually someone takes pics of the 'frocking'. They have photographers (MC) on that ship, every ship does.
Katie is at sea right now for more sea trials. Said that when the tropical storm was coming thru they were experience 10 foot swells. As she put it 'None of my fireman got sick'. Others on the ship said they could feel it in their rack.
Thanks for the update Sharon. I'll be interested in hearing about Steven's experience in the reserves. I've been enjoying your FB pictures of your camping trip.
Marianne, how's Katie's life on her ship? Has she been out to sea?
Josh's frocking ceremony is the 11th. I hope he remembers to send me a picture! He's been sick with high fever and cold. Went to docs and he was out of work one day. He said he probably should have gone back to doc the next day to get another day off, but instead he went to work. He is now having night fevers only and bad congestion. I strongly urged him to go back to doc to have it checked out.
Well...take care all!
Comment by MarianneKT's Mom on June 8, 2013 at 8:42pm Sharon, thanks for the updated on Steven. I had been wondering how things were going for him. NCIS is one of our favorite shows as well!
Comment by BHappy (Sharon) on June 8, 2013 at 8:25pm Hello Everyone! Congratulations again Tina and family! Loved the photos on FB as well.
Today Steven signed up for the reserves and he will be working for NCIS in San Diego once a month, beginning next month. Hahaha. It makes me laugh because that is our favorite TV show! He probably found a place to rent with a friend too. He says he sees a lot of the guys from Japan there. It has been a bit of an adjustment to civilian life and I think the active reserve position will be good for him.
We've been camping at Pismo Beach, CA but heading home to the heat of the central valley tomorrow.
Have a great rest of the weekend everyone.
