Its been a while since this was started, but I'll add my two cents. I'm Lesa, from the Milwaukee, WI area. My son reported to the Carl Vinson on July. He's an SK. Since then we've emailed regularly-- love hearing his stories about the re-furbishings going on. I alternate between being very proud of him and missing him terribly.
Lesa,
My son James is also on the CVN, My son is a LSSN. I am so proud of my son and as excited as I am for him to travel to CA, it will be further away and I will miss him dearly.......
If you ever want to talk my personal email is d_cheri1@hotmail.com
Hi,
I'm new here my son is a MM3. He got there in Aug with his new bride. So far he loves his ship, but wishes he was any where but VA. He also talks in letters like I would know what they meant. I guess I will just have to learn. Not much to say right now just glad I found this site.
Hi all
My son arrived in Oceana on 11-11-08. He is an AO land squad with F-18 Super Hornets and attached to the USS Carl Vinson. I went on the ships homepage and they are still predicting sea trials this Spring.
Hi! My son Ben is graduating A school this Friday at P-cola. He then will come home for Christmas for 5 days. He is then to go to the USS Carl Vinson. He is so excited and I am happy for him. I look forward to hearing all about it! He will actually be on the ship so he should have some good stories to tell? Anyway, have a MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!
Lisa, I just signed up for this discussion. My son is SK on the Carl Vinson! We were out to see him for a "flocking" ceremony in December. I have to say, I was SO impressed with the men and women attached to that ship! They were the most polite and helpful bunch of folks I've ever met. We even had our photo taken with their CO. We are from Illinois, where chivalry pretty much died within the past 20 years. But not on the Carl Vinson! We stayed in Va Beach, and he was able to spend Friday through Sunday with us. Otherwise, he's on the ship and "hates" it! My son (Ryan) has been in the Navy about 18 months, and has been on the CV for less than a year. He's also frustrated with how long it's taking to get rolling. He was home over Christmas (we had our holiday late, but at least we had it!). It's a little easier letting him go now than it was at first. When I say "easier", I really mean "I don't cry where he can see me!" Just looking at his picture, though, makes me proud -- and tearful. When I have more time, I'll post a picture. Nice to meet everyone, hope we get to be good cyber buddies!

My oldest son Jake is on the CV. He is an AS(aviation support). He has been there since 8/08. He is currently in Jacksonville for C school, but will return to the CV in early February. He is enjoying the little break from the CV right now especially since he has been rubbing it in that it is 80degrees in Florida right now! He too likes where he is,but can't wait until things get rolling either.
My son DJ has been with the CV since Dec 07--that is when he's there! He did 3 1/2 months last year with the Truman and is currently out with the Stennis.
I'm sort of a 2nd generation CV'er.My brother was a Marine stationed on her from pre-commisioning through the 1st world tour.
I see this has been her a while however I just found this site. I am Carmaletta and I am very proud of my AO son Steven who is on the Carl Vinson. You should see my desk at work it looks like a Navy recuiting office.
Love everyone who serves our armed forces but have a special love for my sailors. My dad served in WWII and I will tell you his chest puffs up about 10 times everytime he talks or is with his grandson.
Love you all.
Hello Dayna,

My Son Jonathan is on the Carl vinson, He was home for 10days on leave and I sure hated to let him go! He was ready.... he is working on his Security Clearance and hopefuly soon he will be in A school in San Antonio Texas.. much closer to home. Strange how the Navy has changed him, seems so diffrent, not my little boy anymore.. I have to let him grow up and I know that, makes it harder though and as he says Im ok, MOM don't worry! LOL

Hello, I just found this site. I'm Bonnie from Oklahoma. My son first joined the Navy with the delayed entry program while he was still in high school. Once he graduated he was ready to go. Since last November he has been assigned to the Carl Vinson as a DCFN. He's been talking about the upcoming sea trials and can't wait for the ship to get going. He's wanted to be in the Navy since he was about 10. I have been to VA to visit him once so far.....hope to go one more time before the ship leaves the dock. I am so proud of my sailor!
I just wanted to let you all know my son is also on the Carl Vinson- I just joined this group as I thought important to get to know and share all you experiences- My son Mike has been on the ship since April of 2008-It is weird for him to not be out to sea as he was stationed in Yokuska Japan for 3 years on a destroyer-believe it or not he does miss Japan- it is still hard for him going on a ship with 300- to nearly 5000? Not sure how many are on this -anybody know? By the way we live in a small town east of Tulsa OK- and the picture is of myself and my daughter Megan on her boot camp graduation- she is in the Army National Guard- both children in military-wow -she is going to college and wants to be nurse in Army-My son said they are going out for trials at end of month but keep changing it- One more thing -does anybody know about a tiger cruise? If so will they have this on the Carl Vinson? For anybody that does not know about this it is whrere family members get to go out to sea for a day with their sailors- I think Isaid enough- look forward to sharing stories with you all!
