Hey CV Moms: Anyone going to the FRG pizza dinner/meeting with the CO next Wednesday?

Sue and AJ, Oddly enough I don't fear flying. I don't like to fly because of all the nonsense with getting to airports and through airports etc., but the actual flying is fine just boring! I don't like heights where I am standing and looking down i.e. steep steps(Navy ships LOL), church balconies, elevators with glass walls just to name a few examples. Actually, my palms are sweaty just thinking about it! I don't avoid these things I have just learned to compensate for my fears by diversion some how. The Tiger cruise will be a challenge for alot of reasons, but I am not going to let the height thing scare me out of it! If my 75 yr. old Dad can manage, I certainly can!!!!! Nice to know I am in good company with others who have the same fears!

Thanks, AJ -- that's pretty much what he told me too. He also has a female friend who recently transferred to Pensacola. She's on the ground crew for the Blue Angels. She is trying to get him to come there, and considering that he might not get to go with the CV, he's considering it. I would love to see him do that. He also said he might re-up for another 5 years. I guess I'll just have to be patient and see what happens! In the meantime, I can probably get an awful lot of leg strengthening exercises accomplished!!! :)

Marianne, I used to be afraid of heights, too. I cured that, though, by powerchuting over the cornfields of central Illinois at 800 feet! Seriously, if I had to do it again, I probably wouldn't. It was one of those "you only live once" moments. But now i keep thinking, what if the chute had failed?? That engine isn't going to do me much good at 800 feet!!! But I can get on an airplane now without too much stress!

Sue, I am getting mixed messages too so I guess we are all just going to have to sit tight and wait just like our sailors righ now! I can confirm the step thing on the carriers. I have been on tours of the Ronald Reagan(my younger son is stationed on the RR) twice and although I am in pretty good shape I don't like heights and had a hard time looking up or down while on them. I am not letting that stop me though and will be taking the Tiger cruise on the RR when they return from their upcoming deployment this year! I would check if you are eligible to take the cruise with knee replacements. If you are it would be worth the workouts!! I am really looking forward to going!

I'm getting such mixed messages! My sailor is home for a few days, and he's leading me to believe they won't be moving to San Diego till 2011! That can't be right, can it? He'll be almost out by then, and he says that when they are in their last year, instead of moving them across country, they will just move him to a different ship! Does anybody know anything about that?

I also told him I was anxious to do the Tiger Cruise. He said, "Mom, you'd better start working out, because they don't have elevators on the ship and you have to climb up and down 5 flights of stairs!" Oh my ~~ I've had both knees replaced. That bummed me out too!

I am saying Yipee too for the CV to get rolling and yes Molly I would be the same mom that is sad that the RR is rolling! The thing is the RR sailor is not disappointed that they are leaving because he is going to be doing his job for 6 months and the CV sailor wants to do just that too. It's whatever as the boys would say!! I guess I am getting better at accepting these things, but do we ever? They are my babies!
I have a picture frame hanging in this very room with the photo that is my profile photo and the frame says...."You don't raise heroes; your raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they'll turn out to be heroes, even if it's in your own eyes. unknown. Yes Molly, I know you are shedding a tear and I do that everytime I read that! Our good friend Jan Fry sent me the info for this cause she has one too! God bless our sons and daughters as they go out and do their duties whether heroic or not they are heroes all of them!
