Hi Molly,
The Nimitz is going to Bremerton. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we get the CV too. I am getting tired of ships but it is the best option for us right now. We were also looking at Hawaii but we would really like to keep Elsa with the same doctors if we can so the CV would work out for us.

Hello everyone,
Please forgive my rudeness, I just jumped on and started commenting without introducing myself. I see a few familiar people from other groups on here. My name is Maggie and my husband is currently onboard the USS Nimitz. Last week he told me that he is "penciled in" to go to the Carl Vinson sometime late next year. The orders can change but I don't think they will. Our oldest daughter is EFM because she has a heart defect and we try to stay in San Diego to keep her near her cardiologist and her cardiac surgeon. My husband has been in the Navy for 17 years and I served 8 years in the Navy and got out 5 years ago. I grew up in San Diego so I am very familiar with the area. I look forward to getting to know all of you better.
Maggie

Darla, Welcome to our page. This is a great place to find your information you are needing and to keep up with what is happening on the ship. This is a super great place for when our sailors go underway. I know that I am very spoiled with talking with my son almost every day and when they are out at sea I do not have that and this group sure helps me with the momma blues.
I know that my son is wanting to come home at Christmas time but I do not know when he will be here. He is driving his truck home and flying back to VA.

Chat with ya later.
Mom of a grandson of a sailor man.

Good afternoon everyone - this just came across my desk and thought I should share, in case any of you have family members in this situation. It indicates over 5,000 Navy personnel have been affected...

ALTMIRE ENCOURAGES SERVICE MEMBERS HELD UNDER STOP LOSS TO APPLY FOR NEWLY AVAILABLE PAYMENTS
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) -- U.S. Congressman Jason Altmire (PA-04) today announced that special payments are now available for service members who have had their enlistments involuntarily extended since September 11, 2001. Earlier this week, the U.S. Department of Defense announced that service members can now receive $500 for every month they were held under stop loss orders between September 11, 2001 and September 30, 2009.
Earlier this year, Congressman Altmire voted for the 2009 War Supplemental Appropriations Act, which established this new initiative.
“It is impossible to put a price on the burdens that extended deployments have placed on our service members and military families,” Altmire said. “However, I hope that these payments will show service members that America is grateful for the additional sacrifices they made. I encourage anyone who has questions about how to apply for these payments to call my office for assistance.”
More than 185,000 service members have been held under stop loss orders since 2001. This includes more than 131,000 soldiers, who on average will receive $4,000 in compensation. Approximately 5,565 Navy personnel were also held under stop loss orders.
Service members from all branches of the military can submit claims for retroactive stop loss pay until October 21, 2010. Each service member will be required to submit documented proof that they were stop lossed. Family members of deceased service members may also apply for payments. Those with questions about the application process are encouraged to call Congressman Altmire’s Natrona Height’s office at (724) 226-1304.
For specific information about how service members from each branch of the military can apply for payments, please visit the following websites:

Darla,
This is the Carl Vinson website. If you go under command info you will see a section marked "Checking In" go to that and it will give you lots of info about what your daughter needs to do to check into the command. There isn't much time to do it this time but next time she transfers it would be a good idea for her to request a sponsor from the new command who can help her get checked in. Most commands have a website and somewhere on there they will have a section for people who are new to the command or just checking in and you can usually request a sponsor there. I hope this helps.

Darla, I am on the carl Vinson. Your daughter will report, and they will put her on the ship. She will live on the ship, unless she chooses to move off and into town on her own, And since we are in the shipyards, living quarters are never fun. everything will be okay.

Hi everybody I hope you all had a nice weekend.
I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help me with.
My daughter is home on leave until November 4th then she heads to Newport News, VA to report for duty on the Carl Vinson. My questions are:
How does housing work? Does she have somewhere arranged when she gets there already or do we need to do something?
We are very confused and I just want to make sure that she has a place and an understanding of where and what to do.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

dyeshome, Both of mine are taking 12/27 to 1/5. I believe the other leave time is the 1 to 2 weeks prior to that.
