Comment by Jane, MM Mom on February 17, 2013 at 5:01pm I'm sure it was frustrating to get that close & then not make it. One of the nicest things about being stationed in SD is that there is no end of wonderful things to stay busy with! And you will LOVE when you visit him there.
Comment by samuelsmom on February 17, 2013 at 2:11pm Thanks. I hope so. He likes to be active so this sounds like it would be a great learning experience. As far as Power School goes, I don't want to give the wrong impression. They do keep track of grades and points of all the students. He was studying hours and hours every day and almost made it! I think it was so hard for him in that most people who failed did so early on.

Comment by Jane, MM Mom on February 17, 2013 at 1:11am Well, that's got to be frustrating for your son. You'd think they would have told him that long before 1 week left! I think he will like the Essex, my son likes the people he works with in the engineering dept. They will be taking the ship out of the water sometime in April, I think. I think that would be an interesting thing to be part of, not sure if it really is or isn't, but to me it would be.
Comment by samuelsmom on February 16, 2013 at 9:58pm Hi Jane, Thanks. Samuel was actually in the nuclear program in Charleston. He had 1 week to go in Power School when he found out his scores weren't high enough to make it-- ugh! He is still in Charleston right now. He reports to the ship the end of March and he is very excited. He was hoping for the west coast.
Comment by Jane, MM Mom on February 16, 2013 at 12:54pm samuelsmom- my son is also mm3!! This is his first ship? He's just fresh out of A School? Is he happy about being in San Diego? We're in AZ so it's a great place for my son, nice & close. This is his second ship, he was on the Bonhomme Richard before the hull swap- so this is his second time with dry dock also. Good luck to you r son, and be sure to check the essex FB page because they post pictures & updates there, although with dry dock there isnt' much right now

Did you all see this? Someone made a video of the ship at RIMPAC, it's pretty neat
