Katie asks for DVDs and CDs. She keeps the DVDs in a case and then mails home the DVD covers from time to time. Katie downloads the CDs onto her computer and into her MP3 players and then mails them home as well. I send homebaked items from time to time to share with her 'shop'.

My son called me when they were under way (whey) and told me about the about the sub. He was cranking he entire time they were out, I was shocked about the sub, why were they there? I wanted to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving and for those of you who will be seeing your children enjoy the time you have. My son told me he would be coming home next Christmas, so that means it will be 1.5 years until I see him. :(......He wants to come home when he can stay 30 days so he saving his vacation, but whose to say they will not be out to sea next December. Peace and Hope to everyone...

Sorry to hear of James'Grandmothers passing also . Our thoughts & prayers are with you. I hope your memories bring you comfort. My son called last night thought you would all breath a sigh of relief they are back at saebo safe, They were unloading so hope you all hear from your sailor soon. He said there was some excitement during manuvers they detected a Russian sub, I guess they kept an eye on each other for awhile.Happy Thanksgiving to all the Japan group had a good idea all moms light a candle @4pm that day I guess as a sign of solidarity we are thinking of our sailors can toast & have a tissue box nearby. Love to all

My condolences to your family. When my mom passed away in July Kyle thought he might get emergency leave but did not. I am sure mainly due to the fact that they were underway at the time and grandparents are not considered "immediate family" like Marianne mentioned but it doesn't hurt to try. Good Luck.

TIna-sorry to hear about James' grandma too. Pray for peace of heart and assurance of the resurrection.

I'm pretty sure the Navy makes concessions for only immediate family - like Mom, Dad, spouse, brothers, sisters.

Tina, Sorry to hear James' grandmother pass away. I wish I could help you and answer your question but I don't know what the Navy does in cases like this.
