No one wants to think that their child is on a ship with a gang. I don't know if it is a joke or not. But, I felt like I needed to bring it up none the less. Our kids don't read N4M's it is just for us. If by chance someone who has some influence sees the concern about it maybe they can check into it. Nothing I can do from NC that is for sure.

Thanks Judi for the advice. I try to only tell him the good news from back home. And I send 2 packages every 2 weeks. So hopefully I'm doing it right but it seems as soon as he leaves everything in the house decides to breakdown.lol

Thanks Abc815 that's what I thought. When I worked at Munsingwear years ago I hung out with three other women, 2 where Black, one was a native american we had a blast and called our ourselves the "Mod Squad". Now were we a "gang" or just a group of friends?

hi everyone. just wanted to let y'all know that i got a call tonight from my sailor. i asked him about this "gang" and he says it's just a joke. he says there is a group of filipino sailors that always hang out together, therefore the sailors joke that they're the "filipino mafia". i asked if they were dangerous in any way and my sailor laughed saying, "no! it's just a joke!" i would HOPE that the gw would never allow something like this to take place on their ship. other than that, i hear that everyone is working pretty hard lately. the sea is starting to get to my sailor...he says there are days when it's hard to look at the same people everyday, doing the same thing everyday and not get frustrated. so let's remember to keep their spirits up when we communicate w/ them! and as Judi Hine mentioned, send them packages! they love it and it gives them something to look forward to! even sending small, inexpensive gifts every few days or so is easy to do and cheap! :) ok, bedtime for me. nite everyone!

5,000 people on a ship make for a small city and all cities have gangs. My sailor confirms there is such a gang . . . disappointing but not surprising.

Welcome Navywife! I was a Navy Wife for 15 years, preceeded by 5 years of active duty myself. Two things to remember; no news is good news and bad news travels fast. They work very hard and need to be focused. Sometimes they are just too tired to communicate. But don't let that stop you from writing him, email and snailmail, REALLY important. Also, send him packages. Don't whine at him with things that will make his time at sea worse than it already is, being away from you. Encourage him with your love. I loved being a Navy wife and the Navy life - it's not easy, but worth it. And our kids loved growing up Navy.

My son works those long hard nights and tries to sleep during the day. I really hope that he doesn't have to deal with a bunch of thugs. But, I would like to find out about it.
