My sailor lost his life last November. Serving on the Nitze and was on liberty in VA and hit by a train while on liberty.  Please share this video of his life and memorial.

Be grateful he is well and just chalk it all up to him not wanting to get soft and sentimental cause he will miss you and that hurts and may effect his work.

Hi jakesmom - i know, but when you hear other kids e-mailing and calling from their ship and having great conversations it makes me sad, but i'm glad and happy for the other moms.  sometimes i just tell myself that when he's short, and when it seems like he's yelling in his e-mails, i am glad he is comfortable with me to do that.  i would rather have him yell or be short with me then with someone in charge.  i have been sending packages it just takes forever to get their.  the first one was a month, the next two went the same time took about two weeks, and the one i awhile ago hasn't made it yet.  i know they don't get deliveries everyday, at least i don't think they do, i guess i'm having a harder time then my son.

Hello Robin, They are very busy and very tired.  They work 10 hours, stand gaurd another 8 and have to find time to get through their qualifications.  They cant call from the ship and when they are on leave they are blowing off steam and do not want to call and get sad and homesick.  So my best advice is send him a care package with a joke and his favorite gum, snack , magazine etc. Jake got one from me today and is sooo grateful.

hi ladies. i hear from my son sometimes through e-mail and facebook, but he doesn't say much.  i guess they are really busy with drills and what nots.  there are times when i really miss him and need to talk to him but he is very short with me.  the last phone call i got was on Mother's day.

Well, my son is on his way to his ship.  Don't know how long it will be before I hear from him again.

It depends on where he is meeting up with the ship (do not tell me on this forum) but Jake called me as soon as he arrived in the country where he was being picked up.  He called me almost everyday while he was waiting for the ship to get there and then emailed me once he was underway.  Your son will be fine.  Tell him to find my son.  I will send you a friend request and private message you his information and email address so your son can find him easily.  Jake is a good kid and loves his job.  He loves the adventure of the Navy and is very proud to be a part of it.  He was nervous on his first deployment too, he can help your son through it.
