Belinda...we covered the places to stay advice a couple of weeks ago, you might back track. Check tripadvisor.com and don't shop price, there are pockets of nice and the price reflects that. If Old Town is for you, stay IN Old Town not something names Old town or near Old Town. On Coronado is fine, book EARLY. Mission Bay and Shelter Island are nearby...check out Google Maps of the area.

DON'T make a side trip to Mexico...friends have been robbed and beaten...there are shootings even in Tijuana often.

There is plenty to do here in San Diego. Go to SignOnSanDiego.com and see those wonderful web cams and things to do options.

you'll sign in on the ship with your sailor the day before, and the day you sail you'll get on board about 4:30-5 AM. The RR is so big it turns up mud off the bottom of Pearl Harbor as you start heading out.....I'm so glad I went last year!

Question for someone who has been on TC before. We're arriving in Honolulu a few days early, my Aunt and Uncle have lived there for years and we're going to spend time with them. Do you know what time we'll board the ship for the TC? I've heard it may be very early in the morning and I'm wondering how the timing will work with dropping off the rental car. Thanks

Hi moms! I'm new to this group and am excited to see my son! Bummed the site is down, but glad it's not just me. Anyone know if they are still on-track for arrival?

I will agree on the sweatshirt. It got a little warm. I was wishing for a tshirt. And yes get there early! Everything has been covered!

Barbara and Marianne, Said it all. Thank you ladies. We did not bring a chair with us last year we got two at homecoming. So if you want one, get there early and you should be able to get them. Plus there was a lot of stuff to buy, so bring money.. we had a big banner so that my son can ready it from the ship. I hope that everyone has a great Labor Day.. Hugs

All good advice Barbara! I did all of the above except for the chair. I had a bunch of our moms there so I didn't even realize the time had passed like it did. They do have SOME food such as donuts and coffee, but I brought granola bars and stuff and that was fine. Only port-a-potties so drink accordingly, at least for us females! I am NOT a big fan of those sorts of facilities, but in an emergency it is a must! Not worth dehydrating!!!!! It does start out cloudy MOST days. So maybe wear a sweatshirt, but dress with a t-shirt under it cause it does get warm once that sun comes out and there is NO shade on that pier!!!!

Homecoming is fantastic. Be sure and take some of those chairs that fold up real small, you'll be there for hours and hours. If it starts out cloudy put the sunscreen on anyway, it's bound to clear up. Make signs so your sailor can find you. Make sure your camera and camcorder batteries are charged (boy was I ever mad!), bring sunglasses and something to drink and maybe some snacks. Be sure your cell phone is charged so the minute they can turn theirs on you can talk to them!! Ok, that's all I got, how about the rest of you?

I was trying to get some information about a good area to stay in San Diego for the homecoming. Any Ideas?
Texas Carol Comment by Texas Carol on September 4, 2009 at 5:12pm
It's not just you ... the site is down. The only time it's been that way before (that I recall though I'm still a newbie) is when they are in port or in a sensitve area. Of course the possibility exists that it's just a technical glitch...
