I have not been on this site since bootcamp a year & half ago. My son is currently out on deployment w/the Rushmore family.

I had been hearing from my sailor every or every other day.  It has been nearly week, since I last had an email.  I am sort of freaking out.  She was sick last weekend and that was the last email I got.  I know they are in a blocked phone area but is anyone else getting emails?

My son is Deck 1 -1st Division.

But I have no idea how that works for others.

1735 is the correct one! I had it wrong. Thanks for clearing that up!

FRG = Family Readiness Group.

It is to support the families of sailors while they are underway. Many of them are wives/girlfriends in the SanDiego area who can support each other, but others like myself (I live in NY) can get a lot of information from there! I know things even my son doesn't. But it is a closed group, so you have to get approved to join.

MichelleProudMomofEddie- You are right! I see the 1735 on other posts too!  I have asked at the FB group FRG supports the USS Rushmore. You should join there if you are on Facebook. I will let you know what they tell me.

Hello! This is my son's first deployment, and I can't be there to see him off tomorrow. His new bride is there, at least. But, it is more difficult than I thought it would be. Any advice? Also, what are some suggestions to send in care packages while they are deployed?

Comment by jodybrock on August 15, 2012 at 1:07pm

bethhc- I sent one to my son around the same time. He says they don't get mail while underway, so I too was hoping it would be waiting for him when they returned last time. His friend who has been on the ship longer, says it is totally hit or miss, and to send Christmas presents in October if we want them there in time.

Does anyone know what is up with the mail on the USS Rushmore, I sent a package to my daughter is early July, I know they have been in and out but she still has not gotten it.  I also sent phone cards directly to her and she has received nothing.  They are out again but she should have received them when they came back last week.She said everyone sai it takes forever but I sent a package to Japan, after I mailed hers and they have had there package for nearly a month.
