Comment by Jean 1 hour ago Good Morning to Everyone.
They do have and alt. route to get pass the closed I-5 mess.
Comment by NF Mom 5 hours ago Reservaton Road ( through La Conner ), Best Road ( East of La Conner ) and Memorial Highway ( Highway 536 ) are all alternative routes that avoid this bridge but Memorial Highway is likely to be a clogged detour route until the bridge is fixed.
The route of Highway 20 to I-5 and then South on I-5 over the now collapsed bridge was a four lane divided highway route.
The alternatives are all two lane secondary roads, including the Memorial Highway alternative route which is likely to be a detour route for I-5 until the bridge is repaired.
If you need to get to Whidbey from the south go thou La Conner
Comment by NF Mom 5 hours ago Location of Bridge Collapse in WA State
Location of Whidbey Island Naval Air Station ( NAS )
Location of Everett Naval Station
The bridge collapse was North of both Whidbey Island Naval Air Station and Everett Naval Station.
However, to avoid taking a Ferry, the bridge is the vehicle route from Whidbey NAS to Everett and other points south from Whidbey NAS - this route over this bridge does require driving miles North before turning back south on I-5.
Comment by Arwen 6 hours ago will mess up a few camping trips to Baker or north.... 3 taken to the hospital, I laugh because how many times I drive that bridge and my husband worked on that side for 11 years, there are a few ways around it! My son in-law drove over it 2 times today, and my friend drove over it 10 mins before it happened
everyone survived as I have heard.... It is a small part of the highway only 3 cars in the water 2 lane road (2 north 2 south)
not really as big a deal as OK I laugh at this and still pray for More, OK
Comment by momof2sailors 6 hours ago His name is Chief Sligh and he is from Whidbey. Him and his wife were on the way to a Chiefs Mess Camping Trip.
Comment by Arwen 6 hours ago One of the survivors of the bridge collapse is Navy Chief Dan Sly (not sure of spelling). He rode the collapsing bridge down in his pickup truck (pulling a camping trailer), put his own dislocated shoulder back in place, then kept his injured wife partly out of the water while he waited, standing on the truck's sideboard, an hour or more for rescue.
PS and I'm no where close to NAS
Close yes and no... you can always go south or to the other bridge, I went over that bridge 2 times yesterday.
