For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Comment by Anti M on January 24, 2012 at 4:19pm: I may not have wanted a big wedding for myself, but I do love listening to the planning when others are doing it. But them my practical side pipes up with "For $2000, you can get a really good mattress and box spring....". Hehehe.

I did a buffet for my niece as my gift, and I was asked to do other weddings! Had to refuse, because I didn't have a license. Poor girl was serving sheet cake, nut and mint cups, and lime sherbert in Sprite... and nothing else. Yikes. I pulled together hot and cold buffet, with non-alcoholic drinks, including the decor to match her colors, for under $500. She had the reception in her church, so it wasn't fancy. They had no money at all, everyone pitched in to make anything at all happen. She even had to rent her dress.

Both she and her husband chose colors, purple and silver and Navy blue and teal. You should have seen the cake her SIL did with a purple fountain, teal and silver silk flowers, and Navy tulle bows. Too many colors!

The date is all up to my photographer, funny enough. He's a very good friend of mine who professionally photographs weddings. We'll take whatever open Friday he has! :D

I've been asking as we tour venues about their flexibility. The one I love is willing to shift the date anywhere within the calendar year, which I think is great. Not QUITE a military clause, but pretty damned close.

In the meantime, we'll be married at a courthouse in Groton next month. My visit out there is really the only chance we'll have to get the legalities taken care of and get me onto Matt's paperwork.

Comment by Sweet*Southern*Lady on January 23, 2012 at 1:25am: Jo I'm from Peoria,IL but with so few good location they fill up nearly a year to a year and a half in advance. So It always great to start ahead of time in your research, it also takes time to visit the locations, meet coordinators or planners for each location.

Jo, I say start with a few dates, find a location for wedding (church or other site), reception, and your photographer. When you find a date that is open with all those places pick it! Most of the time they will have a reservation fee and you'll signing a contract (make sure it has a military clause). Fees for our wedding were: Photographer $500, Church $55, and Reception (with caterer) $2,000.

Comment by Jo (Wife of an ET Radioman) on January 17, 2012 at 9:16pm: So now that Matt finally asked me to be his wife....I get to start hunting down all the details that come with a wedding. Thankfully we're having it sometime in 2014, so there's not a huge rush to put stuff together.

It's just...different, I guess, 'cause I always figured he'd be there to check out venues and eat cake and whatever with me. If anything, he's taken a totally hands-off approach aside from encouraging me to get it done. Weird...but I understand, he's plenty busy with BESS.

He gave me three pennies and told me to make three different wishes and I threw them one by one over the bridge. And then he made a wish and said "I wish you will say yes" and then he got down one knee and asked me! Haha, so cute, I'm just so excited!
