Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on February 3, 2013 at 6:58pm Martha S, try messaging the Fleet and Family Support Center on FB https://www.facebook.com/navyffsc, hopefully they can send you in the right direction. You could also try your Regional Legal Service Office - http://www.navy.mil/submit/display.asp?story_id=24816.

Comment by martha s. on January 31, 2013 at 2:08pm Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to get my son his certificate of birth abroad. He was born while I was stationed in Germany, but I've lost all my papers in a house fire. He has asked me to get him a copy or something and I don't have a clue where to start.
Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on January 30, 2013 at 6:52pm Check your state's Landlord-Tenant Act for their military clause. Looks like you're in Washington, so it would be this: http://apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=59 You likely will have to provide your landlord a copy of your son's written orders to his first duty station once he completes boot camp and becomes full-fledged active military (that may be part of the hang-up, that he's only in BC). The good news is that boot camp is only eight weeks long and you'll have those orders soon :)
Comment by 2catsn2sailors on January 28, 2013 at 11:33pm When my son turned 18, the apartment complex insisted that he had to be added to the lease. Of course, they charge for W/S/G based on the number of people in the apartment. Now they are dragging their feet to remove him from the lease, even after I put it in writing that he was in Navy Boot Camp. Any suggestions?

Comment by A Sailors Mom on October 16, 2012 at 11:21pm Marcy,
Great reminders!! I would like to add that everyone should also be reminded that although the rolls of Ombudsman and the FRG seem to be similar, they in fact do have differences. The Ombudsman is bound by a very strict Code of Ethics and is required to maintain their training. Most importantly, they are a confidential resource are considered an Official source of Command information by the appointment of the Commanding Officer and can help anyone understand the OPSEC Guidelines. They will be able to share with you information authorized by the Command leadership, this includes ships movement, homecoming dates, special messages from the Captain, just to name a few.
The FRG is considered the social/fun team. This group is responsible for the social activities of the Command Families (planning homecomings, special parties, book clubs, walking groups, etc). Families and/or Friends will often be need to be signed up by their Sailor to receive information about these events.
Both roles are served by people that volunteer their time, selflessly to ensure everyone has a good experience during their Sailors time at the Command.
THANK YOU to every Ombudsman for doing what you do and the hours you give to make a difference to our Navy Families.
Lastly, THANK YOU for sharing your loved one and YOUR Navy Family with the rest of us.
Comment by Marcy ~ Corpsman Mom on October 16, 2012 at 10:29pm Welcome new members! It's important to be on your sailor's Ombudsman and FRG lists to be able to get important information while maintaining Operational Security (OPSEC). Communications about homecomings and dates, for example, is not to be shared here on N4M or any other public site. Your Ombudsman and FRG will communicate that information securely to those on their lists.
OPSEC guidelines are here: OPSEC Guidelines
Info for locating your Ombudsman and FRG is in the Discussion Forum above.
Comment by mother always on August 19, 2012 at 3:00pm Good afternoon
Thanks to God,he sent me an email saying that he went to his CO and reported the PROBLEM and I wrote problem with capital letters because this woman is terrible,I say this not because he is my son,but he is a very nice, gentle and respectfull young man and she treated him so wong...so hurtfull, now she is going out with one of his "friends",he even was this guy's mentor...I told him to be cool because she wanted him to get in trouble...but as I say he is always very polite, thanks to God.
They are going out on deployment and they are all going together...just hope she goes her "correct way"...the CO called her and talked to her, what happened there...we don't know...
Thank you for your answer,Seahorse!
