Comment by Stephanie (S-PACT/Yokosuka,JP) on May 13, 2013 at 10:12pm Hi Elaine L. I have a son on the Antietam. I have sent you a PM. :-)
Comment by Elane L. on May 12, 2013 at 2:50pm looking for "Antietam" moms on this group site, would love to communicate privately, so maybe I can get a clue about what is happening on/with the ship. My son is very non-communicative about everything, including how's he doing off or on the ship.
Comment by katlanta on May 5, 2013 at 7:35am Please don't share last names of your kids on here. it would take away the challenge we moms share of trying to guess if our kids know each other - because they use last names on the ship and we use first names in here. :-) anyways - it's an OPSEC thing - so just stick to the first names when talking about your kids. thanks.

Comment by HeatherinVA on April 30, 2013 at 11:41am I will, what is your sons name? My son is Geoff Cato. So when you say they will be going out soon you mean as in a deployment soon? That will be good for him, lol.
Comment by navymom3 on April 30, 2013 at 10:58am I am sure he will like it. I know the ship is finishing INSURV and will be going out soon. Have him look my son up when they go out.
Comment by HeatherinVA on April 30, 2013 at 8:54am Thanks navymom3. He is a GSE so he will be in engineering. He has a passport already so I will make sure he takes it with him when he comes home on leave. I am retired Navy and my husband is still in so I am mostly familiar with things but I was never on the west coast or stationed overseas. I was also in aviation so these small ships are new to me. He is excited to go. I hope he likes it.
Comment by navymom3 on April 29, 2013 at 8:01pm Welcome heatherinVA. There are several Wilbur mom's on here. My son is direct support for the Wilbur right now. So he only goes out when the ship goes out and does not live on the ship. Cathy is right make sure he at least applies for his passport before he leaves. He will need to wait to get a cell phone as he will need a Japan phone. There is several phone apps that you can use to communicate for free. We use the app Viber to text and call for free. You can also use skype for free. My son has been there for almost 17 months and he loves it there. He will go through an indoc for Japan and they will show him the rules and how to get around. There are all kinds of things for him see and do there. What job does your son do?
Welcome HetherinVA My son is also On the Wilbur! That is a wonderful Ship the Crew & CO are Awsome so no worries there. I would have to say the one thing I would make sure he had before he leaves is his Passport for travel when not on orders that is a lot harder to get when he is already there.
Comment by HeatherinVA on April 26, 2013 at 11:04am Hi there. My son just received his hard copy orders to the USS Wilbur in Japan. Is there anything I can help him with. He is still in Great Lakes but should be coming home on leave soon before heading over there. These will be his first set of orders.
