Profile Information

About me:
Me....Just a proud Mom beyond description. We ended up moving to Virginia, while he is in California and most likely will now stay in VA until retirement. I enjoy church, being a Gramma, reading, crafts and am now looking for work after being out of the work force since 1997. Living in a one horse town, the next towns/cities are 30 to 45 minutes away.Due to a few health difficulties, I can't drive that far that often, but I am not giving up yet!! Keeping those "fair winds behind me" .Need those $'s to visit family!

My active duty Navy Son- well, his last 3 tours he has not been on a ship. He has been flying to his duty post with the USMC, and always on safe land. I was able to see his CPO ceremony pictures on line, as he was pinned way out of country, and his wife made a few comments on some pics and I was able to imagine seeing it as if I were there too. After 12 years you'd think I would get used to him living and sailing/flying so very far away. But I don't. It would be better,I think, if our relationship was more on course...just can't seem to get being the "right kind" of Mom for him down yet. I still seem to make so many mistakes, especially now that he is a grown man. I am finding that being a Mom is a lifetime "learning" experience and I am not learning as well as other Moms. So therefore we have been estranged for a few years now. I mourn this loss every day. Only a Mother can understand that kind of pain.

I am confident that one day the Lord will show him more tolerance, give him more spiritual growth and better acceptance of our differences andI pray we can be reunited as a family again. I know that I do try, but seem to always get it wrong. None the less, I am very proud of his Naval success and am an advid Navy rallier even more than he is, he even told me that years ago. Unfortunately, it does embarrass him. But I think most proud mothers do, don't they? Sorry Josh, I love ya!! And I do like showing you off!!

He loves his wife and children very much and for a couple of years I was able to observe what a great Father he is. His wife is a great Mother and I know the children are being very well taken care of.(that eases my heart a lot) He has been deployed quite a bit and she has had to nearly raise those kids by herself. I think the Navy has toughened her up as well. As a girl she was so shy and quiet, but now nothing stops her, especially when it comes to her children, wheither anyone thinks it right or wrong, it's her way and those kids are thriving...at least the last time I saw them.

I can sure relate to her situation when the Father is absent, having been a single Mom myself.. We do everything we can, sacrifice a lot, and make loads of mistakes, but in the end all we can hope is that they love God, be good and kind people that contribute to society and/or country... As they grow they become their own person and eventually go their own way, growing more into the person "they" want to be and not always who "we" want them to be. That has been a hard lesson for me to learn. Before I knew there was a problem with "my" actions, I was blessed to be at the birth of one of their 2 children. I miss them all so very much.

I do have 2 other sons, 1 I adopted, he is a former SubSailor, the other a civilian step-son.We have a good relationship. And I have been very blessed by them and the 6 >ii< Grandchildren that that have been born of them. I was fortunate to be at the birth and nearly there after, for 4 of them. Gramma flies out of state, when able and needed, when Grandchildren are born! I love beeing a Gramma!!! If only that came first! lol

I am very proud of all my sons, their wives and of course my grandchildren. They are all proud of the Navy too, and proud of Joshua's service to our country. I think it's contagious! One of his nephew's want's to grow up and be just like his Uncle Josh!
I am here to support or represent my:
Child/Stepchild
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That "I" was now in the Navy too and feel a new duty to the service of our country.
My Son was now a different person, but still my boy.
Never to ask detailed questions about his job or tdy

The question below changed and didn't have enough choices. I will tell you what it originally was and it was true. "Through this Navy Experience,I now believe: It was positive and maturing but our relationship has become distant."
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Anchors Aweigh
The United States Navy Theme Song

Stand, Navy, out to sea, Fight our battle cry;
We'll never change our course, So vicious foe
steer shy-y-y-y.
Roll out the TNT, Anchors Aweigh.
Sail on to victory
And sink their bones to Davy Jones, hooray!

Anchors Aweigh, my boys, Anchors Aweigh.
Farewell to college joys, we sail at break of day-ay-ay-ay.
Through our last night on shore, drink to the foam,
Until we meet once more,
Here's wishing you a happy voyage home.

LITTLE KNOWN NAVAL HISTORY...BUT FASCINATING
The U.S.S. Constitution (Old Ironsides), as a combat vessel, carried 48,600 gallons of fresh water for her crew of 475 officers and men. This was sufficient to last six months of sustained operations at sea. She carried no evaporators (i.e. fresh water distillers!).

However, let it be noted that according to her ship's log, 'On July 27, 1798, the U.S.S. Constitution sailed from Boston with a full complement of 475 officers and men, 48,600 gallons of fresh water, 7,400 cannon shot, 11,600 pounds of black powder and 79,400 gallons of rum.' ?Her mission: 'To destroy and harass English shipping.'

Making Jamaica on 6 October, she took on 826 pounds of flour and 68,300 gallons of rum.

Then she headed for the Azores , arriving there 12 November. She provisioned with 550 pounds of beef and 64,300 gallons of Portuguese wine.

On 18 November, she set sail for England . In the ensuing days she defeated five British men-of-war and captured and scuttled=2 012 English merchant ships, salvaging only the rum aboard each.

By 26 January, her powder and shot were exhausted. Nevertheless, although unarmed she made a night raid up the Firth of Clyde in Scotland . Her landing party captured a whisky distillery and transferred 40,000 gallons of single malt Scotch aboard by dawn. Then she headed home.

The U.S.S. Constitution arrived in Boston on 20 February,
1799, with no cannon shot, no food, no powder, no rum, no wine, no whisky, and 38,600 gallons of water.

GO NAVY!!! lol

I just wanted to put misc. things on here that I really liked and wanted to remember, they may not necessarily be Navy/Military related.

This Playlist are songs I am finding and remembering that I had at one time before a fire in 1987, as well as newer songs I like that I haven't bought cd's for. This is about me, growing, being a Believer, young adult, wife, Mother, empty nester,Grandmother and today(although still and empty nester :-).

Please feel free to plug in and lay back and list… Continue

Hello Tori, I haven't been on for a while. My sailor is just getting over viral pneumonia Praise God and has gone out to sea. My heart about stopped when his Chief had called to let us know he was in the hospital, but they took good care of him and I know God is and has been where I can't be. People thought years ago that tornados were unheard of in the valley, but not anymore. They do happen here...We've had a couple that have touched down previously around Middletown and the scales on 81. It's unbelievable how much damage they can do and so quickly. Thank God you and yours came through just fine and the tree did no harm to your home. You mentioned the bike. Are we talking motorcycle or bicycling. My husband and I ride some. I got my license 2 years ago and love to go out when I have the time. Take care and enjoy your weekend. :) ps We Have An Awesome God! bj

Hope all is going well with you. I know that a tornado had touched down in Stanley the other evening and some trees, limbs etc had gone down and they had lost power briefly. Have a nice weekend. I think we will see the sun tomorrow. :)

Your story about your Navy son makes me sad. I am sorry for you and him that your relationship is so strained. I will pray for you both for His intervention and peace for you both. God Bless.

Having checked here I wonder if I did respond to you about this week. I am sorry that we will be out of town so I can't make it. We will have to try again.....sigh....It will happen at some point, I am sure, but right now it does seem frustrating to me.

Hi Tori.. I am wondering myself how my name appeared in your inbox... well, thanks for adding me as a friend. I was replying to one of my friends regarding her daughter's trip/deployment and was in Kuwait.. she was a bit anxious about her being far away in the Middle East at that time.. I was sharing her some info about the place since I have travelled to the Middle East and have been in Kuwait more than a decade ago... My son is a Corpsman and is presently in the beautiful Italy. He loves his job and is enjoying his new place and have been travelling Europe with his sailor friends on their days off. He is young and single, focused and goal-oriented. He is taking some University subjects and working on online Nursing Course to become a RN. He just passed his advancement test and will be PO3... I am a new Navy Mom and have no military background in the family so far and I was really scared and depressed when he decided to join the Navy, but now I am one of the proudest Mom ever and a big believer. The N4M have helped me tremendously but of course my son taught me, too. Our communication is far long-distance but we continue to bond. We talked for hours...

By the way, I like your page and enjoyed your pics & playlist, sang the Anchors Aweigh, had a good laugh with that fascinating Navy History and felt your emotions as a Mom ... your experience is enormous compared to mine, thanks for sharing... things I learned here are mixed... we laugh and we cry, we rejoice and we condole, we share and we support... i think the N4M is a blessing... thanks again, I think I have talked a lot... nice knowing you Tori... hope to hear from you as well. God Bless and have a great Memorial Day weekend.

Oh dear, we will not be here the 28th! Our grandson is being confirmed in NC and so we will be driving on that day. :( It is a good idea with gas prices on their way back up to try when you are going to be here though. I hope the next time works out better for us. Happy Memorial Day to you. I would post one of those great graphics that I see but don't know how.
