When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The military is not a "scary place to be". It is a step for many people like my son, Justin, who want to do something different before he goes to college, to earn money for it, travel, learn discipline and get real life experiences that will only help to make him a better man.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Anabel, I hope you all are ok. We just had a storm move through Katy about an hour ago and it was a major one. If you live where I think you do (which is over by my fathers place) you should have got some of it as well. Lights out, green color, yucky. Take care.

Hi Anabel!

I got a letter from Ben today. Actually it was a form letter that I mailed to him to fill out and he sent it back. He did say that he and Justin's bunks are right next to each other. I still think that is so cool! My Ben sounds sad. I think he is a little lonely. The letter made me sad, but I am continuing to send letters to encourage him. My family is too. I think that once they get into a regular routine it won't be so bad. His recruiter also told me that by week 3 they start to get over the homesickness. The letter is dated October 25th. It appears that Sunday is the start of their new week. He is already counting down the days (as am I) until graduation. I hope all is well with you.

Anabel,
Are you staying at Springhill? The more friends I add, the more confusing it gets to keep everyone straight. I need a spreadsheet just for the moms. If I can do anything regarding the meet and greet please let me know. Does anyone know if we have to pay something to reserve a room at Flannigan's? Just wondering?

Hi Anabel,
When I read one of your comments, it reminded me of the relationship before my son Blake left! I could say the sky was blue, and we would get into a dissagreement. I know this time apart will be great for us and our mother and son relationship. It is sooooo hard not speaking to him everyday...it is getting a little easier as each day passes. I'm glad we will all be up the on the 4th of Dec. We HAVE to try to get together for sure!!!!

Hi Anabel, Yes I'm from Katy. It's nice to know that there are other moms close by. My son Phil left on October 5th, but he was technically not supposed to until the 6th so his PIR is 12/4. He's on Ship 7, Div 013.

Oh, that breaks my heart..I know it's a good choice they have both made but sometimes it just hurts regardless. Last week I found a shirt Zach was wearing the day we moved him out of his apartment and I started bawling and hung it in my closet. I couldn't make myself wash it. I'm going through a divorce from my son's step father right now also so my emotions are even more raw. It is just bad timing for good byes right now! I have 2 sons ages 16 and 7 and a 14 year old daughter. My boys miss Zach the most especially my 7 year old. I'm sure it's hard on your daughter. I was 16 when my brother left for the Marines and I remember it like it was yesterday. Well, good to hear from you. I know we will get through this and it will be all worth it when we see how proud they look on graduation day!

Hi Anabel! Just checking in on you. I know they first few weeks were really rough on me so I wanted to lend you my support. Getting the first letter from Zach was a turning point for me...hearing him seem excited about what he was doing eased my mind so much. It didn't make me miss him any less but made me realize that this is for him and about him and I just had to hang in there and it's all going to be okay. He called yesterday and is doing really well and will be doing Battle Stations soon. He is set to graduate on Oct 30th. Just write those letters and before you know you will be watching Justin graduate to! Hope you have a good day. Take Care
