Profile Information

About me:
I have been married to my wonderful hubby for 22 years and am the mother of four. My Sailor is my firstborn of three sons. He's 6-10 years older than the other three kids, so it will be a while before I have an empty nest. I have a background in Early Childhood Education and have been, among other things, a Preschool teacher and parent educator. In the fall of 2007, I started a new adventure in learning, homeschooling my then 14 year old daughter. This past year, she started her High School studies and the younger two boys joined her, so life got even busier! I love classic literature, movies and cars. I enjoy teaching, writing, attending musical theater, listening to music, reading, cooking (but can't bake), gardening, being physically active and relaxing near any bodies of water. I have a special place in my heart for Moms, and now, sailors. :)

When I heard “Navy,” I:
Needed to learn more about it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
That there are too many things to list here. So... I created my first Blog on August 09, '08 so that we can all share. It's now a featured discussion in the Boot Camp Moms Group:
http://www.navyformoms.com/group/bootcampmoms/forum/topics/things-ive-learned-so-fartips

Hope it helps New Moms and brings back memories for Veteran Moms. =) Feel free to add your insight too! I expect there will more lessons to come...
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hubby snuck up and snapped this one of me late one night (you can't see my red eyes!), I think I was laughing at something either Molly or Diane had posted. :D Hello, my name is Angie and I admit I am a N4M addict and no, I don't want help, just company!! LOL

932s of '08...still going strong! :D

Interacting as I do with many new Navy/ BC Moms, I am surprised to see some of them fade away off site after they have become better informed and "survived" the grueling 8 weeks of Boot Camp. Once they are back in communication with their new Sailor, they seem to feel they have no further need of N4Ms and the connections here. To each her own, but I think they don't know how much they could be missing!!!

I just observed my one year anniversary of being on site May 15th. Out of curiosity today,… Continue

Navy training-and a Mom's support-pays off

Just wanted to share that I received a phone call from my Sailor. He had taken the Petty Officer 3rd Class test at the beginning of the year. He hadn't studied at all, figured it would be a good practice run. There is so much info, including some specific to certain specialties within his Rating, he really didn't think he would pass on the first try. As of this month, he has only one year in the Navy, so he thought he was somewhat "ahead of schedule". He wasn't stressing about a possible promoti… Continue

One Year Ago ...

I knew little to nothing about the Navy, but found myself getting ready to send (launch) my eldest son into a life in the Military, something he'd talked of doing for a while. I knew my firstborn was a warrior at heart, and had done all he could to prepare, but nothing and no one can really completely prepare a Mother for THE day and this experience. I have already blogged last summer about dropping him off at the Recruiters office. (Check it out, it's titled "Looking Back".) After how long BC s… Continue

Still his Anchor-A tale of 21st century communication and connection with my now 21 year old Sailor.

A week ago I left home. Not permanently of course. After a too long, dreary and snowy winter, I really needed a change of scenery. My hubby was going to be out of town on business for a few days and the younger three kids are homeschooled, so I opted them out of WASL week (state testing) here in WA and off we went, late on a Sunday afternoon, across the State.

Did I mention that I knew beforehand of a certain Ship coming home to Everett (on 4/21) and that some of my N4M friends on the site, spe… Continue

Hello Angie, actually Cindy is a very good friend and also represents Steel Anchor for the great state of Alabama. That picture she has up was from a recent event here in Cincinnati to raise money along with Operation Troop Aid.

On a very difficult and much more important note; Florence McSween is not doing well and very much in need of prayer right now. Our Cindy (Spitfire) from Steel Anchor plans to check in on her at the hospital, but we wanted to get the word out to all of you as quickly as possible. This woman has been through so much and has given so much so not to allow others to go it alone. I firmly believe we need to get everyone toghether and quickly. She doesn't even have someong to help her take out her trash. This is not the way a Gold Star Mother and one of our should have to live. If ok with you, I will send you my home phone number.

Thanks,
Ordy

Thank you Angie for all the support you have given me through the months I have been waiting to leave. I have 3 people to write to while in Great Lakes. If you could just tell me once more what I should bring with me that would be good. Thanks for all the information.

Hi Angie,
Haven't heard if any Navy mom's are coming over here yet. My daughter in Wenatchee just had her first baby, little girl 'really cute'. She had some complications w/inverted uterus caused excessive blood loss. She is staying longer in the hospital and having a blood transfusion to get her count back up. Can't stand up...very weak. So been busy waiting for results and her go ahead home. Shea is still working on the Abraham Lincoln Aircraft Carrier, not sure when it will be deployed.
Only have seen him 2x. Is your son in Spokane yet? Lucky to have them closer. Let me know if their will be a group coming. We have beautiful winters! Always a festival on a weekend. Let me know...I can try to round up good deals...give me a little time to do that. Linda

Angie...you are absolutely right! I drilled him about sending cookies to BC & said that he would get in trouble and I wasn't going to get him in trouble! He said send them, he was VERY adament about doing it! So...I told him this was on his head and sent them on. I keep thinking he is a big boy now and deal with the consequences. Thank you for the warning though...as a mom who misses her son dearly we sometimes let our emotions overload our common sense!
