Hi Neighbor, we live in Clifty. Our son's PIR is 9/18 and we are driving. Did you drive? If so, how long did it take? GPS said approx. 10 hours.

Has your sailor phased up to be able to stay with you in hotel in downtown Charleston? that's pricey, and staying a bit closer to base may be realistic--and only about a 30 min. drive to downtown. Check out the chamber of commerce in Charleston. Especially if you are driving. Otherwise I'll see what info I still have out in the car under the seats for hotels.

Hello Arkansas Navy Mom, Your pictures are so sweet. I know you are so proud of your son. My son left May 19; he is in Division 246. This website is so wonderful. I don't know what I would do without it. Take care! Susan

Janet, sorry I haven't been back to you, had to move my son's stuff from Bella Vista to Goose Creek last week, just pulled back in this morning. Hopefully you have heard from your son, but if not, you will. Seems the first week or so is mainly processing and I know it took a little while for them to get a complete division of future nukes gathered together. Right now he is in overdrive up there with the new world he's entered, but it will settle down. I remember Luke saying that they would have earned a phone call priviledge, be marching to the phone banks, and someone would screw up, and they'd just turn them around and head back!! I also remember the comment, that for a bunch of smart kids, it sure took them a long time to learn to shut up and do what they were told! It's part of their process, just hard for moms to deal with. You just have to realize that you raised a smart, self reliant kid that has entered a new life, and it's really really hard as a mom to accept it. I know I was sure that way. When you start getting the letters, be sure to keep them for him, you'll see him go from "oh god mom" to "we accomplished this" during the next couple months. He'll laugh when he rereads them in the future. Hang in there!

Hello, I see you are from Bentonville, I'm north, across the line in Jane. My son could have possibly been your son's recruiter if he has been a Depper for a while. Luke was a nuke, and if I can help with any questions, please ask. I am leaving Tuesday to move Luke's stuff to Goose Creek, he will be going to college there for the next couple years. He loved the area while in A school, so much to see and do. As far as boot camp, it's a tough time for both of you, but the time will fly and you will be sooooo proud when he has his PIR.

Hi Everyone!

I'm glad it's Friday but not so glad because it's the first weekend without my son! I watched the boot camp video that is linked to the home page for this group and had to laugh because the video states that your child will get a 5 minute phone call home once they reach boot camp. Seriously, 5 minutes? More like 5 seconds!! My son called at 11:30 pm Wednesday night and the full extent of the conversation was, "Hi Mom, it's me. I made it here okay." Then he started to say something else when the line went dead. Are you kidding me?!! It's the last time I can talk to my son for who knows how long and they have him hang up on me mid-sentence?!!

I'm just relieved because I know he'll get to sleep in a bed tonight. I hated the thought of him being deprived of sleep the first few nights they are there. He was tired when he got there because his flight from Seattle was turbulent most of the way.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

yes, you can send him stamps in his letters. I also know that they can buy them there. I had my son put 20 of them in his wallet when he left. But most definitely slip them in with his letter. So, did your son get there Tuesday night or Wednesday night? Mine got there Tuesday night, he called about 11:20. I'm starting to feel a little better.....maybe. :) Until I think that....then I start to cry again. LOL.
