Does anyone know how far in advance one can reserve plane tickets to the PIR.? My grandson, Josh, leaves on Jan 5th. We live in Idaho and I know the plane tickets don't get cheaper the closer it gets.

About me:
I am married for a long time and we are retired and have been living in Idaho for about 3 years.I worked in the broadcast industry for about 30 years before retiring. My husband and I were born and raised in Fresno, Ca until we moved to Idaho. We moved to Idaho to be with our son and his family when they moved to Idaho. We brought along with us our daughter, Kim and her son, Josh, who is the one in DEP.
I am here to support or represent my:

Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Waiting to leave for Boot Camp
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was proud and encouraged it
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
I really don't have any experience except that our grand-daughter married a Navy boy and they now live in Hawaii until Jan 2010 then they will move to Seattle area. He, encouraged our grandson to look into the Navy. Our Grandson, Josh, went in under the delayed entry program so he could finish high school.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Oh! Your grandson hasn't gone to boot camp yet. Big step in life. It was funny to see everything he wore to boot camp come back home in a box. He took nothing but his phone, which turned out to be good. He called twice before they checked him onto base. And he went with a buzz cut too, haha. Be sure to tell your family to read the whole letter packet they send out after boot camp. They tell you to get refundable plane tickets for a good reason. There are sometimes delays in graduation. And don't mail anything but a regular letter. Care packages have to wait until A school and beyond. Being there for PIR was one of the greatest moments of my life. That's what this picture is of us together. He said it was the highlight of his winter. And Chicago in Jan was no picnic. Talk to you again soon.

Hi Barbarajean,
My son is a DCFN, out on deployment. Haven't seen him since Jan. I feel lucky to get emails a couple times a week. I hope you are finding support through this site. It's tough to have loved ones far away, whether they are military or not. Being military, I think we probably worry about their safety a bit more. Hopefully you are getting to hear some news about your grandson on a regular basis! Take care and drop me a note anytime.
