He'll do a lot of cleaning in his career, not only while on hold. It's best to keep them busy, lest they find something else to do and get into trouble. Yes, this too shall pass is a great attitude to have while dealing with the Navy! LOL

Well, he was able to come home for the weekend and had a great time with his friends going to an air show around here. That did help life his spirits quite a bit. But yesterday, back to ground and building cleaning! I keep telling him and this to ...

This is why I think all people entering the military should be single until the other party can see what military life is all about, I hate when guys or girls do that to our Hero's. They should not have to worry about this crap on top of everythin...

Ack- poor kid! Did he say why he was put on hold? I guess the best you can do is to remind him that sometimes the Navy does things that are beyond rhyme or reason but that if there were a motto for the Navy it would be "hurry up and wait". Hard t...

Great information Sue. This is good stuff to pass on to Max. Thank you.

They have financial classes, do cleaning, shovel snow, volunteer for whatever needs to be done. Scott seemed to stay busy. Of course he said he did whatever he could do. They have personal inspections on their room all the time so they need to keep those in order. Also tell your son to get shirt stays to keep his sheet in order. They really help. When they first get there and during Phase 1 they can not leave the base. They have to stay there, but there is a bowling alley and they can play pool. There is a McDonalds. During Phase 2 they have liberty during the day but have to be back on base by a certain time. Then During Phase 3 they can have overnight liberty. When he first gets there if there is a waiting period to be classed up he can find lots to do. Scott even started studying for his first test. Plan ahead.

Scott didn't start classes for 2 weeks after he got to A-School. They have processing to go through and then sometimes they have to wait several months to get classed up. It just depends. Scott has class during the day and I know if he doesn't have early watch he usually calls me between 4:30 and 5:00p.m. They do have time for PT, not sure how much but Scott talks about it. He usually has the evenings free unless he has watch or mandatory study hall. The time off they have Max could use for PT. I know Scott plays pool and bowls quite a bit. He will be glad when he gets to Phase 2 and can leave base if he wants to. He would have to be back at a certain time at night, but can leave during the day.

Also, about seeing Max. I only wish! I will see him at graduation for the first time. When I first laid eyes on Adam at his Marine graduation after 3 months it just took my breath away. I know it will be the same for Max. As far as I know he won't even be able to come home (2 1/2 hours away) for the day. He has to be back every night at 7 pm and I think there is a radius he can't leave. But I am sure I will find out more about that later.

Dad's just don't understand the "box" I am doing a scrapbook for Scott and I had to take a picture of the "box" just because it is part of the whole boot camp experience. I am so glad your Marine is coming home for a visit. Gee you do have it hard, one in the Marines and one in the Navy. I will say lots of prayers for you. It is hard enough handling one being in. But I am proud of him for his decision. Scott has his first test today so I can't wait til I get the phone call tonight to see how he did. He loves it though. He knows it is tough but has a positive attitude. Take care and Big Hug for you, your Marine and your Navy recruit. Enjoy your visit.
