My extension got denied also, I think that the ones that get approved are the ratings that can also be Full Time Support, because those are the most needed ratings in the Navy at most times.

As long as he has his orders he can drive home by himself, pay for his own flight or ride home with you. At least that was my son's case but he also did 15 months of active duty after A school.

RuthAnn- To the best of my knowledge your son will not be able to switch to active duty at this point. Until his swearing in just before he left for boot camp he may have been able to switch to an active duty contract but the reserves would have t...

Karen- You do that too. Makes my son crazy but keeps him from having to drive back to get it or buy it out there. Luckily his drill is on base so he can buy stuff at the NEX. Well the count down has started for real as he is leaving this month for...

That is a new one for me but my son went through there a couple years ago. Of course my son had 15 months of active duty before his reserve duty began.

Bonnie! So sorry for the delay in responding. Life has a way of not letting me do what I would like! Just thinking about you as the weather gets warm. I lived in Seven Hills and the kids used to make the trek to the bottom of Seven Hills drive and...{ can't remember the name of the cross street} to get popsicles. Too long ago!! I hope you and your sailor are doing well! Take care.

Hi Bonnie!
I saw your post and thought...I wonder where in the Valley? I grew up in Tujunga! Went to Our Lady of Lourdes. Haven't been back in 20 years. I am sure its changed. I will be 53 in a few weeks. Did you grow up there? We may have been in classes together @ Sunland Park!
My son has been in the Navy since May 07. Take care...

Thank you for the welcome. Robin invited me over. I am on a few other Navy sites as well. My son signed the National Call To Service contract even though he wanted to be active and make the Navy his career. He was given not quite accurate information to put it politely. He is a MA2 and is currently in his active reserve duty at Port Hueneme. It is great having him home again and he possibly will see about going active again at the end of his two years in reserves. If not he will complete his contract in inactive reserves. He graduated boot camp in June of 2006 and spent his active duty near Pensacola, Florida. Currently he is going to school and will work again as a lifeguard this summer.
