About me:
My son who will turn 20 yrs old during boot camp, left today for basic training in the Navy. I have three boys, 22,20, and 9 yrs old. I have a four year old foster daughter whose 20 yr old mother was not ready when the court gave custody back to her so she came home with us too. My 22 yo son is graduating from college this year and the 20 yr old foster daughter is now in school. I have a wonderful husband. My son is enlisted for five years in the Navy.
I am here to support or represent my:
Dillon
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid, Was proud
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
to support him. He needed me to be supportive not second guess his decision. I did better after the initial shock was over.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
The Navy has a lot to offer, This was the best decision he/she could have made

I can't tell you how proud I am of Dillon. He is an amazing guy. He has always had a heart the size of Texas. He was one of those kids who wanted to save the world- a person at a time. When he was growing up , his dad and I would be worried about some one he had befriended but, he would always say that we taught him not to be judgmental growing up and we couldn't change our minds now. Interestingly, he always seemed to make an impact on the people around him. He had a unique sense of knowing when someone needed help and knowing who would actually take it. I have told him before jokingly, "ya know Dillon when I grow up i am going to be just like you." I am so proud of his decision to join the Navy even if I did react in the beginning like an overprotective mother. His comment was," so, you want people to send their sons to protect your country , your just not going to willingly send yours!" He was right of course and once I got over the shock of the way our lives were going to change -- I was the proudest i had ever been of him!!! October 18,08 Today was a bad day. I don't know why but i cried all day. I MISS MY SON!!! My little boy either really missed his brother too or thought it would help by playing videos of Dillon ...that did not help!! I was not paying attention at one point and i heard Dillon on the recording say , " MAMA!" it freaked me out and i started crying again. I don't know why some days are just so much better than others but today I would have done anything just to hear his voice or hug him once. I miss his voice, his smell, his lanky walk, and most of all his laugh! I know you all know what i mean , i just thought it would help putting the way i feel in words.

I found a mountain high enough

When my boys graduated from high school , I played the song Ain't no mountain high enough for them. I told them there would never be a mountain high enough to keep them from me. I found one it is Navy bootcamp. LOL.
I am very proud of Dillon but, tonight missing his call made me have to laugh in the middle of crying when I listened to that song. I just have to remember my little boy is now a man so there are going to be times from now on that I am not always going to be there. God bless all our… Continue

Your son will come back a different man!

That is the one statement that has scared me to death. I don't want him to come back a different man. I am proud of the man he is now. As a matter of fact, that is my fear. I lectured him ( yes, I mean lectured- I have always been bad about that as a mother) about not changing too much. He is a tough guy but so big hearted. I was afraid he would be too hardened by boot camp. The funny thing about that is I am the mother who other moms would get on to for saying to my sons during a ballgame " If… Continue

Hi Bridgette, Congrats on your son's PIR!!! What proud parents you are by now!!!!! Words cannot express...and know that your emotions are going to be very surprising at times. I just sent my daughter back to Pensecola after Christmas break. We have had a very tense time of it all...she just arrived at Pensecola and was told to get her leave chit...they did not want her staying there...so she came home in a terrible blizzard...flight delays...flight cancellations...reschedules and finally on her way to end up circling over Madison Wi for 45 min....not sure if she would be rerouted to who knew where...Chicago closed...Madison 15 in snow...Milwaukee...14 in snow and aiarport closed...Mpls closed than open than closed...she was suppose to land at 12:45 but finally got here at 4:30...we stayed with friends for 3 days. She had a great leave and I loved all the commotion and her request to her friends to come on a certain day because Mom was getting alot of her time!....I love that Woman, my little girl!!! She left today and I am having a very hard time...I dont know when I will see her again, before I always knew the next visit. We had to leave for the cities early again because of the storms again..she missed her orig connecting flight but just called to say she was on her way and will call me tonight when she gets settled in. I cry at the thot of her, the mention of her name, the sight of her blanket...but she is doing what she wants to do and I am so proud of her! She will start Aircrew classes in Feb or March...How about Dillon? Where is he...it was Pensecola for the same thing Right??? Hope this year is a great blessing to you.

I thought about the birthday card site when I read the security reminder. For Dillon's safety, consider taking his name off that page.
I really like the idea of sending birthday cards to our sailors - they need as much support as we can give them, but we don't want to jeopardize their safety.
Congratulations on raising such a fine young man! Take care.
