From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
The Navy motto "HURRY UP & WAIT". That this experience has been an emotional rollercoaster.

WOW Carol, It seems like forever since we have talked. How are you!!!!??? How is Vanessa doing?? We are well. I am still staying busy teaching. Michael leaves for Iraq in May. He will be gone for 6 months. Our relationship is going so much better. I won't get to see him before he leave, but I will be there when he gets back. Write when you get a chance. I miss talking to you. Take care. Becky

HI Carol! I read on one posting that your daughter went to A school in MI. My daughter Lorna has PIR 10.31 and is a grad and go heading to MI. She is going to be an SK as well. I am happy to hear your daughter likes it. Lorna and my son in law both have PIR 10.31 and he stays in GL for his A school.

Thanks Carol,
I believe he will like it and there is a lot he could do with this if he decides not to stay in the Navy!!! He has always wanted to open his own surf shop. They did tell him at Boot camp he would be assigned to a fleet. I told him that really it's good because since he is single then go ahead and get that out of the way and next time he can be assigned to shore. I don't know if that is how it works but it sounds good to me. lol

Do you go to the Oregon ABC meetings in Portland? That would be a really good way of meeting local vendors, etc. that can get you going. Also, I found when I first got started that if I got to know the other consultants and worked for them occasionally that they would recommend me when they were already booked. The conference we're planning is for all the Northwest, we did it two years ago and Oregon did it last year so it's our turn again. We'll be sending out more info soon and you should receive it since you're a member. Would love to meet you! What's your company name?

Carol, I was just reading more messages on N4M and saw that your daughter is in VFA 122. My son used to be in VFA 122. After 5+ years involved in this crazy business and knowing a retired CMC, the training (rag) squadrons have people coming and going and it's quite a different situation than the other (regular) squadrons. My son is so much happier now that he is with a regular squadron as opposed to a rag squadron. If she gets down, let her know that it will get better with her next assignment. Just thought I'd throw that in FYI!

Hi Carol, I have a son in Lemoore. Actually I had 2 sons in Lemoore for 2 years but one got sent to FL and then got out of the Navy. My son, Derek AE2 (AW), is a member of VFA 25 and is currently out on the USS Ronald Reagan. He's been in Lemoore for 5 years and married a local girl. Funny thing is that I'm also a wedding coordinator/planner! I live in Bothell, WA. Are you a member of ABC? I am and we are planning the NW Regional Conference up here this year. If you want more info let me know! barbara@weddingsx3.com

Carol,
Thanks for all the info. I wasn't able to find anything on the oregon.gov website, but then again my computer skills have much to be desired. I will keep looking. I forwarded the info along to Eric, and he seems to be looking forward to it. It is a long way from us, but hopefully a nice place to visit.

Hi Carol, Thanks for keeping me posted with how Vanessa is doing. Michael is talking to me again, but it is a strain for now. He is doing OK. His dad sent him his car and he is now waiting for the title to come through so he can get it registered on base. I know with a car, that will open a whole new world for him. He says he might be coming home for Christmas. That would be nice. Will either of your children be home for the holidays? This will be my first Christmas with the potential of both boys gone. I will have to do something special to keep my mind occupied. How is work, and life in general? Write when you can. Once again, thanks for ALWAYS listening to me. :) Take care. Becky

Carol,
Me again. I was just reading your profile that your work in a Sports and Recreation gym in Oregon. My oldest son just graduated from college with a degree in Recreation and he is having a difficult time finding a job. Any openings in Oregon? He is currently in Colorado, we are from Texas and he does not want to come this way--wants to stay that way. I don't know what you do, but do you have any insight to what a new college grad might need to to find a job in the industry? He actually loves guiding, has worked with the disabled, lifeguarding, rafting, Eagle Scout, and just basically loves the outdoors.

Carol,
Thanks so much for your reply. My son received verbal orders today that he was going to Lemoore, so I read him your description. He is pretty excited about California. It seems to be a nice base from your description and pictures we have seen on line. What does your daughter do there? Eric is AZ and will be assigned to a squadron.
