Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Was concerned or afraid
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
that he has become a better and strong man. He has grown up so much. He still needs guidence here and there but for the most part he is doing well.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
It was positive and maturing. Our relationship has grown stronger.

Hi Carrie, Nick is back on the ship! He was in Kuwait being evaluated by a pulmonary specialist. The cellulitis in his leg moved to his lungs! He is all healed up and feeling fine. It was a rough three weeks and of course it took him until he got back on the ship to finally tell me what the problem was! Extremely happy and relieved that he is back on the ship...

How is your daughter doing? Is she due soon? Nick has been flown off the ship and is at a military hospital being evaluated for an abnormal chest CT. He has a cyst removed on this tailbone (common in young men)on March 30. He then developed celllulitis in his rt. thigh which required IV antibiotics. At the time he was being treated with IV he also presented with a fever and cough. His chest x ray was abnormal so he had a chest CT when they were in their last port. That came back abnormal too. The ship's surgeon that did his cyst e mailed me and said that it could be a number of things from pneumonia, fungal infection, auto immune disease or even cancer. He contacted a pulmonary specialist at an Army hospital and Nick was flown off the ship last week. The surgeon said to look at Nick he appears healthy and feels fine. I haven't heard anything from Nick which is driving me nuts with worry. I know he is getting the best care possible and depending on what they find he may go back to the ship or worst case be flown state side. I never thought I would say this but I want him back on that ship in the worst way! His orders say he has 15 days to report back to the ship. Holding on to the "no news is good news" these days. I'm glad you got the chance to spend time with your son before he left. Hope your daughter does well and presents you with a beautiful grandbaby! Take care.

I just figured out how to add friends! My son says I am technologically defiencent...please accept my appology for not adding you sooner. I finally got an e mail, actually two, from Nick today. I can't tell you how happy I am! All month I've had my cell set on vibrate and I've put in in my bra so I would not miss a call. Find out he has no phone card. Took care of that right away..he should be receiving them in about a week!! This deployment or perhaps any deployment (how would I know since this is the 1st) appears to be harder on me than him. He said he's having fun! Thought he was supposed to be working. LOL Happy Mom today...

Thank you Carrie. I sometimes think I whine too much. Just hasn't been easy and this past weekend was rough. Family says to "Pretend he's away at school". They really have no clue. Tomorrow is a new day and one day closer to coming back home!

Hi
I think my son is going to be a lifer also. His grandfather was in the Navy for 25 years. He really did miss the subs when he was in Georgia. He has been away since he graduated High School in 2001. I really miss him. I just have to trust the choices he makes. The way the economy is................. I am happy that he has a job .

Hi Carrie
My son did like Hawaii very much at first either. But when he spent some time in Georgia............... he decided to return to subs and to Hawaii. He is living off base with a few other guys. He is much happier now.

Hi Carrie!
I'm a Navy Mom and Foster Mom. My son is in the Navy still in GL A school and I have a 17 year old foster daughter that has been living with us for over two years now. She wasn't in the system (DCS). She was a private placement through Tennessee Children's Home. You are a blessing from God to consider foster care. There are many children and youth out there that needs loving parents.

Take Care, Becky

Hi Carrie
My son was on the Lajolla and then went to school in Georgia for a year. He is now wit the Uss Olympia. He misses the Lajolla.
He is glad to be back in Hawaii, he missed his sea time while he was in Georgia.
My son has been enlisted since 2001. The nervousness does lessen, but not by much.

Hi, Carrie and welcome to Sub Moms! By my count, there are a couple of other LAJOLLA moms around here: Dinah Scaturro & Heather. If you'll put "uss lajolla" or "uss la jolla" in the 'Search' box at the top of the page, you should find them easily enough. If not, I'll be happy to help. We're all here for info and support, so shout out whenever you like! Hugs, k.
