Thank you for sharing your experience and all the information. While my son doesn't even leave for boot camp until October, I'm trying to do my homework in advance and be prepared and your posting has been very informative and entertaining. Thanks...

My son is also headed to BC as a Nuke in October of 09. I haven't slept since he enlisted, trying to find out everything possible about what is to come for him. Couldn't be prouder!

By the way Caryn...you have much to be proud about...Navy Nuke is very selective...not everyone gets to be a Nuke.

Congrats to Kyle! As far as EM, ET, or MM...I believe that it is based on the sailors scores on the ASVAB, his HS record, his boot camp performance, and most of all the Navy's need. ET and EM are in school approx 3 months longer than the MM. Make sure that Kyle does some research on what each job entails. Then when boot camp rolls around he will be prepared to list them in the order he prefers and hopefully will get this first choice. My best to Kyle in the coming year! Happy New Year!

My son is a Nuke and has been in for 6 years. He is an EM1 now and has been on a fast attack submarine for 4 years. His stations were: NNPTC at Goose Creek, Charleston, S.C. - Prototype School, Ballston Spa, NY - then assigned to the USS ASheville SSN 758, Point Loma Submarine Base, San Diego, CA. Being a Nuke is something special - they receive respect from all quarters. If you or Kyle have any questions about the "nuke" life, especially submarines, please don't hesitate to ask! If I don't know I'll ask the expert! Good Luck to Kyle, much love, and many blessings as my son has received being a Navy Nuke!

Welcome to DEPPER's...I hope that this group can offer support and a place
to vent, cry, laugh and brag.
Please feel free to reply to one of our discussions
or start one of your own.
Questions about DEP are most defiantly welcome.
A question that you have may be a question that someone else has
but just hasn’t ask yet.
What we don’t know we will find out!

Check out the Deps group on this website...He should have a book, I read my sons book...He should also be doing PT...although I had introduced my son to swimming, I did not consider him a swimmer. He got a membership to the local pool and kept pushing until he could do the required swimming to get through boot camp. He also ran, did sit ups, push ups...Good luck to Kyle.

Nuke is a tough first two years, but it is an honor. Only the best of the best get the chance to go there! The advancement in paygrade and rank is quick and the bonuses are really good. Google search Navy Nuke...for starters...and read all you can. Check out the official Navy website...read all you can. Is he in DEPS while waiting for boot camp?

Welcome Aboard!
What will your son be doing in the Navy? When does he go to boot camp? This is a great site to learn from a mom's point of view about the Navy.
