Okay, this is what my friend who works at NETC says: "The answer to your question is no, NROTC grads will not go into IRR. This year. Next year, they might. Right now, Navy is the only service that does not do this, so in today's budget environment,…

I've sent an email on this question to a friend who might be able to answer...I'll let you know what I find out.

SusanW: Looks like it to me too. I am not surprised, because this year's freshman class was a huge bubble. There were a lot of students offered scholarships, which means there are a lot already in the system who will be sophomores next year.

If they are on a ship, yes, where the ship is ported. If they are on shore duty, then where they are assigned for duty.

I asked my husband to answer this question. He said that duty station coins are not available everywhere but they would be from the base exchange for that duty station. On ballcaps, he said that most often they are bought from the ship's store and t…

Did you tell her to join our little group here? Congrats to your co-worker and her son.

Thanks for your kind words, Ladies. Your help and insight have been so valuable to me as a mom...I'm just happy to be able to contribute a bit too. Cheryl, I know she can overcome this bump in the road. It's so tough on the young ladies. I can't ev…

Sorry to hear that, Tracy...those Tier 3 scholarships are really tough to come by. :( Did she consider Army ROTC? It may be too late for her to get a scholarship this year, but she could definitely get a 3 year scholarship and the Army does not care…

Cheryl, another thing to talk to her about is where she is on getting to pass it. Is she passing the Navy Fleet standard but not the NROTC standard? My son is having a hard time with the run, he passes by the Fleet standard but the NROTC standard i…

I saw TV commercial for the site, but it wasn't until my husband went to a Navy conference and talked to me about it that I checked it out. My son is an NROTC Midshipman and the NROTC group has been very helpful.

NavyMomXXXY, your post about support brought tears to my eyes. I am glad she learned to separate the good leaders from the bad leaders. I told my son something that was told to me in my first days as a second lieutenant: "There are people you learn…

I chat with my Mid on Facebook nearly every night. The only time I don't remember finding him online was shortly before finals, so he was to busy to FB. I have a daughter too who is a sophomore (not a Mid) and she and I text and chat a lot more than…

I agree with NavyMomXXXY, going to a nutritionist/dietician does not necessarily imply a weight problem. I don't know if the Navy has, but the Army has definitely recognized in the past 3-5 years that weight requirements cause a lot of people, esp.…

Lukes mama: We had the same situation with my son last year. It was the most excruciating part of the entire college/scholarship process for my son. We had to let Maryland know if he would attend there several weeks before we found out his scholarsh…

He found out in mid-February and his package went in about November also. We found out on the scholarship site first. He was originally assigned to the Georgia Tech unit but he wasn't accepted there so we had to wait until May to find out if his sch…

Gander: I cut-and-pasted this from one of my wall posts back in August...some stats on the GW unit...and insight into what you will hopefully have to look forward to. I'm sure my son would be delighted to talk to your son, if he feels like that woul…

I'm surprised your son's uniform still fits! My daughter has lost 5lbs and says her pants are starting to fall down. I just wanted to say how thankful I am for young men like your son who see women like my daughter as shipmates first and women second. Good job, Mom! Some of Sarah's closest friends are young men from her Jr. ROTC unit and she is now forming the same type of friendships based on mutual respect and common interests in her ROTC unit at Mizzou. I am so glad that there is a place for her to serve in today's Navy!
