He took his laptop and he's got a Facebook account but I've not heard anything from him. Sending emails to the ship but no response. Depressing!

Christine, did you hear from John? I sure hope so! Mine emailed finally yesterday to say they had fun where they were, ate good food and enjoyed each city. They were too busy the day they left but Sunday is a sort of rest day with partial work. Good day possibly to contact the ombudsman if you still haven't heard from him. Hope you are doing well.

You're welcome. One mom pointed out that when she was their age, she didn't keep in touch with her parents like they would have liked. I remember when I was first in college my parents were frantic that I was not writing/calling more often...I'm older and we didn't have email and even phone connection was not as easy. Technology makes us expect instant communication and when it doesn't happen we get upset. I could relate to your comment about not even looking here because sometimes it doesn't help to hear others talk about their phone calls. I loved the message from one of the boys who said what lots of them probably would love to say...sort of I love you and you're with me here but I am not going to contact you that often...take a look if you haven't seen it..best, judy

Thanks for your note, Judy! John sounds like Trevor in that regard - I once sent him to Bible Camp with a stack of preaddressed post cards - all he had to do was write Hi on them and he never used one! I'm trying to be patient and am steeling myself not to cry when/if he does call.

Christine, sorry to hear your son has not contacted you! When my son was first on the ship and we didn't have this Nayy4moms site, I didn't even know what to think. Back then he didn't either as I found out later, all was so new and different and exciting and scary and sometimes even boring. It took him awhile to figure out the email system and all, but he's never called me while on the ship unlike others of course. He never was a great phone talker anyway and assured me if he is sick or there is some kind of emergency he will call. When they (Trevor and girlfriend Kayla) were first on the ship (they were 18, now are both 21), they rarely communicated. After we all got used to the routine and I told him he absolutely has to email me at least once a week, he's gotten the message and I get that at least & sometimes more than once. I've found when I ask him specific questions or he has specific needs, we hear from him more, if that helps. At first he was busy making new friends, which he did and made some great friends. They go on port visits together each time and have created some great memories over the years. If you have his email address, keep emailing him with messages of love and please email back, he's going to answer you soon. My guess is if he doesn't contact you while in port, he will do so right after they leave. hang in there, I know it's not easy (imagine the days when soldiers/sailors went off and there was no way to hear from them except letters that took months? Mothers/wives had to hurting with only faith to help..thank goodness that is not these days!)
