About me:
My son left for boot camp 7/22/08. I'm in Arizona worrying about him but knowing this will be good for him. I spoiled him and babied him. But now the Navy is making a man out of him.
I am here to support or represent my:
James
Stage of (Sailor’s) Navy Career?
Enlisted
When I heard “Navy,” I:
Said “No way!”
From my experience with the Navy, the most important thing I learned was:
Giving support without being judgmental.
Through this Navy experience, I now believe:
The Navy has a lot to offer

I don't even know who these people are but it makes me cry every time I watch this video.

Looks like being a sailor is FUN!

Melissa (here in Tucson) had a grad-n-go back in April, she went out to PIR anyway and was able to sit and visit with Matt at the airport for several hours before he flew out.
Once they're in A School they will work their way to greater liberty priviledges within a few weeks, so you might be able to plan for something 4 to 6 weeks after he gets where he's going:)!

Hi Christine:)! I saw your post that James will be grad-n-go . . . do you know where it is that he'll be going to? Once he's settled into A school, he should be able to have most weekends off, so maybe you'd be able to swing a visit at some point before too awfully long. I know you really miss him . . . Hugs to you:)!

Hi Christine, saw your post on BC Moms and wanted to welcome you to N4M's! I don't know your financial situation or how hard it is to get time off of work, but if at all possible, I would really encourage you to go ahead and go! The PIR ceremony is really an amazing, indescribable experience. No other graduation is like it. There is a smaller one, usually at the end of "A" school, but few parents attend it, though you are welcome to. Don't know if there are any after "C" school.

You can follow him to the airport and spend some time with him there, could be 2-4 hours, who knows. Many families just take the Saturday to go see Chicago and the surrounding area and make a mini vacation out of it. You could also bless the socks off of a Sailor who doesn't have any family coming, or more than one, by adopting them for a day. Ask your son if he has any shipmates/buddies who are feeling bummed because their families can't come. The Navy Lodge is a clean, secure, affordable ($63 per nt.) place to stay near the base, use any memberships to AAA or other to save on car rentals.

Be sure and join the Group for your son's PIR date and Division, (use your search box or post on BC moms) so you can connect with other Moms who's recruits are on the same time schedule or who may even know your son. :) Those relationships and exchange of week by week information are extra special and helpful. Whatever you decide, know that he is fine. He will grow up and gain much confidence and focus-and learn how to iron, lol- in 8 "short" weeks! I couldn't believe the poised, pressed, handsome young Sailor I saw before me. My best to you and your recruit! :-)

From what I witnessed at my son's PIR ceremony, it appeared that families were able to visit briefly with their sons and daughters after the PIR ceremony...even though he will be a "grad n go".
