I can already tell this site is going to help me out alot! It's great to see that I'm not the only one going through this....cause it feels like that sometimes.
Once they're in A School they will work their way to greater liberty priviledges within a few weeks, so you might be able to plan for something 4 to 6 weeks after he gets where he's going:)!
You can follow him to the airport and spend some time with him there, could be 2-4 hours, who knows. Many families just take the Saturday to go see Chicago and the surrounding area and make a mini vacation out of it. You could also bless the socks off of a Sailor who doesn't have any family coming, or more than one, by adopting them for a day. Ask your son if he has any shipmates/buddies who are feeling bummed because their families can't come. The Navy Lodge is a clean, secure, affordable ($63 per nt.) place to stay near the base, use any memberships to AAA or other to save on car rentals.
Be sure and join the Group for your son's PIR date and Division, (use your search box or post on BC moms) so you can connect with other Moms who's recruits are on the same time schedule or who may even know your son. :) Those relationships and exchange of week by week information are extra special and helpful. Whatever you decide, know that he is fine. He will grow up and gain much confidence and focus-and learn how to iron, lol- in 8 "short" weeks! I couldn't believe the poised, pressed, handsome young Sailor I saw before me. My best to you and your recruit! :-)
What is your sons last name I will ask Joseph he goes by Joe:) How is your son doing? I should get a letter tomorrow, i hope he is ok. he has been home missing home. Will you be going to PIR on Sept 19th? LOL
