Cindy,
We got an e-mail from Zach today! First one since he left! It was so good to "talk" with him, even if only by e-mail. I hope all is well with you. Have a great rest of the week.

Hi, Cindy -
I've posted a picture of my kids taken last year when Zach was home on leave. They're really wonderful and fairly close. I know it's been hardest on Grace, our youngest. She has a bracelet Zach gave her which she's worn every single day since he left in November 2008. It started fraying this past summer and so now it's fastened with a safety pin. I can't see her taking it off anytime soon.
No, I haven't heard which crew Zach was assigned to. I doubt that I will. He didn't think it would be likely that they'd set up an e-mail address for him on the sub since he was only going to be there a short time. His wife talked to him last on Monday, and none of us have heard anything since then. I'm guessing he's gone.
It will be hard not being able to say hi to him on Christmas, but I know he's doing what he has to for now. I hope you had a good weekend. I'm looking forward to getting to know you and some of the other proud moms better!

Cindy,
I've been married 24 years. When we first got married, Scott was in the Air Force, so I was supportive of Zach's decision to go into the Navy. He'll be 22 in March. I have two daughters also--one who's a freshman in college and another who's in 8th grade. I also have a Christian upbringing having had two parents who taught a combined 80 years in parochial schools, as well as my father having been the principal of that school for 36 years.

I'm extremely proud of him and his wife (also enlisted Navy), but it's difficult not being able to communicate directly with them as they are both on deployment. We've temporarily "adopted" their dog while they're gone, and that's been an adjustment as well.

I'm the admin assistant to an athletics director at a university in Illinois--just about 25 minutes away from St. Louis. I'm going back to school to complete my bachelor's degree, but when I have free time I, too, enjoy reading, gardening, and spending time with my beautiful and unique daughers.

I look forward to hearing from you and others -- this is a great site!

I guess I have to ask my Kyle about yours.:) Yea its been rough since the accident. It was very upsetting to him. It is nice to hear from other moms from the Nebraska. This I believe is his last time out unless he decides to re-up again. I know he still has to do his shore duty. So what ever he decides is ok. So from Kyles mom to Kyles mom have a great day.

Hi Cindy, Can you believe my sons name is also Kyle. He has been stationed on the blue crew since he got to the base 3 yrs ago. I am new to this site also. It is helpful. I know they are out at this time but should be back soon. My Kyle gets to come home this Christmas. I can't wait to see him. Have a good day and hope to keep in touch with you.
