Dear Cindy,
I never heard of the parent making those flight arrangements. I would question that. Not only, I just went through this, my daughter Kim had a sponsor waiting for her in the airport in Virginia. He had to escort her to the base.
I would call up the Great Lakes training base and tell them you can't do the arranging. I never heard of that, and I'm writting 5 months now.
Here's the phone number, and see what they say: 1-847-688-2405
Good luck, I wish you the best.
Take care and God bless.

Dear Cindy,
How are you doing? This Navy for moms is such a blessing.
Relax, I know how scary Boot Camp is. Trust me, Michael is fine.
Once he gets into the rountine of Boot Camp, he'll like it, they all do, believe it or not.
Many recuits, my daughter included loved Boot Camp, and refered to it as a summer camp.
You joined the group for the PIR 12/24, I am guessing that's when Michael graduates, so he's hald way done.
Please reserve a room as soon as you can when you recieve the graduation package.
Now for you, please keep writting to Navy moms, I'm always around as well. Together we'll help you through Boot Camp....we haven't lost a mom yetr!! HAHA!!
I hope to hear from you again.
Take care and God bless.

If you need help with travel the info in the grad packet will be very helpful. Rent a car before you arrive in Chicago if you are going to fly (either air port is ok depends on the one that is cheper as to the one I fly to) from the air ports to GL it is about an hour drive. Hotels are again up to you as to what you want suite or just a room. Breakfast etc just call around and make sure they give you the graduation discount.

Hope that this is helpful

If they do not put in for leave they will be grad n go which means within hours of graduating they will be on a plan to A school. From what I have heard yes you have to make the arrangements for them to get home and send in the intinary before Dec 8th in order for it to be approved. I would suggest you seek out help in the group PIR 12-24-08. (you need to join first) but there are alot of parents who are making the travel arrangements right now and can help you. My son is driving home with me and then we are driving him to A school.
