Life after PIR

Hi everyone - I'm sorry I haven't been around since PIR - life has been even more of a whirlwind than normal with work, helping take care of my elderly mother in law etc. Kelly got to come home with us right after PIR and I enjoyed every minute of it. I saw so many wonderful changes in her - in her attitude and approach, a real maturity came about and I am so grateful to all of the wonderful people there at Great Lakes who helped with that [you know who you are!!!]. Kelly thought the world of he… Continue

sigh...no grad date YET

Okay, it's Friday now and everyone thought they would update the website for graduations by today, but so far no go :-( I really really need to know when Div 906 is graduating so that I can airline tickets, which is neither easy nor cheap from Alaska, especially at the last minute. This is so frustrating, because I see people who went into BC at the same time she did who's divisions are posted. I still have no form letter yet either. I'm hoping maybe Monday something will change. I miss her.

The Navy teaches you when to act

Two things Navy SEALS are always taught:

(1) Keep your priorities in order and

(2) Know when to act without hesitation.

A college professor, an avowed atheist and active in the ACLU, was teaching
his class. He shocked several of his students when he flatly stated that for
once and for all he was going to prove there was no God. Addressing the
ceiling he shouted,

"GOD, if you are real, then I want you to knock me off this platform.

I'll give you exactly 15 minutes!!!!!"

The lecture room fe… Continue

Call from Kelly's recruiter

Well I got the call from Kelly's recruiter this morning [apparently stalking DOES work, LOL]. So now I finally have an address to send her mail to and I've already mailed out her first two letters [I'm sending them in batches of two since there is a backlog and since I don't want to get her in any trouble]. I also sent an email to all of our friends/family telling them that if they wanted to send an email for Kelly that I would print it out and send it with my letters. This worked great as they… Continue

So how did graduation go on 12/24? Was your daughter able to spend time with you or did she have to go to Pensacola right away? Katie was able to come home from 12/29-1/3 since her classes aren't starting until 1/5 at Great Lakes and they were closing down over Christmas. It was wonderful having her here, especially since I was able to get most of the time off of work as well. What A school is she attending?

Hi Connie,
I haven't talked to you since graduation. It was great meeting your family at Flanigans. I hope your trip home was a little calmer than the one getting to GL. I hope Kelly is doing well and that she enjoyed her week home. Ryan really didn't do to much while he was here; visited with family and caught up on all the sleep he missed at BC. Hope to talk to you soon. Happy New Year.

I am excited about being here I just want to do everything! I woke up this morning at 6 am Chicago time (which is 3 am Alaska time)! I want to take it all in....you know, the country bumpkin in the BIG CITY! lol I know what you mean about getting things all together before you leave. I didn't even get our tree up yet.....I figured, if Josh comes home we can do it all together like we have done it in the past. And don't even get me started about the post office.....haha! We still haven't received any calls from Josh, I hope we do get one after battlestations like everyone says. I will look for Kelly and give her a big hug and get a picture with her. I will pray for safe travels for you and Marc! I will talk to you later! Hugs, Maureen

Hi Connie, Well, we leave for Anchorage tomorrow. Then Monday, at 8:00 am our flight leaves for Chicago. We are sooooo excited! We are planning to go to some museums and to the Broadway show "Wicked". I am not crazy about flying, so keep me in your prayers....I will look for Kelly at PIR next Friday. If you do talk to her, tell her to keep a look out for us. Josh told us in a letter to get there early so we can take pictures of his divison. Whatever that means ( you know with him not marching and everything). I still have some packing to do.......well, thank you again for the wonderful Thanksgiving. Matt told us that it was -32 degrees the week after we left.....well, I am glad it was after we left! haha I will try and write while in Chicago, have a safe trip next week. We will definitely talk when you get back! Hugs, Maureen

Pat is Angelina in Division 906? If so they are definitely in the same division. I think it would be so great if they were friends. It does make it hard to ask them as they only know people by their last names! LOL. She has made several really good friends there tho, including her bunkmate who she calls "Girlscout" because she never does anything wrong and is "fantastic" as Kelly put it. If your daughter is in division 906, please join our group as we have one for that division and we have been looking for mothers who have recruits in that division. So far there are only 3 of us and we know there have to be more of us out there. You can find it under my "groups." I am a member of the 12/24 grads too, so definitely join that one as they are a great group of moms and have a lot of info pertaining to our group graduating on 12/24. Are you going to be at the PIR on 12/24? We are flying there. We're stopping in Oregon first on 12/17 and then on 12/22 flying to Chicago. We fly back home the night of 12/24 and the good news is that Kelly says she gets to come home for a break before leaving for A school in Pensacola, FL. Woooo hoooooo. I haven't stopped smiling yet. I actually got a call from her Saturday. She was sad about missing Thanksgiving with her family. I am going to take a picture of the whole gang holding a big poster telling her we all miss her so that I can send it to her right after Thanksgiving. I hope everyting is going well with Angelina and I will definitely ask Kelly about her in my next letter [tomorrow]. Hugs and feel free to ask me if you have any questions! Connie

Hi Maria - I had to make my plans last week even though I hadn't received my PIR packet yet as the airfare kept going up and up [we are very limited on flights from our town in Alaska]. I'll check my mailbox tonight and hopefully my PIR packet will be there. I'm glad you got a phone call! Please do let me know when you finalize your plans. And thanks about Kelly. I think she is beautiful too, but then again, I'm her momma so I'm a tinch prejudiced. LOL. We went on that hot air balloon ride when Kelly was about 12 years old. She was the adventuresome child even then - she absolutely loved it, while my son did NOT. LOL. She was always the kid that would drive the snowmachine as fast as she could while I held my breath. Take care! Delete Comment

Hi Connie, Hope all is well with your family. I do plan on attending PIR but haven't finalized my plans yet. I'm worried about flying up on Dec 23 and getting stuck at an airport. Driving from south fl would take too long and of course there's the winter weather to worry about. I'll be looking into that this week. I received the graduation letter on saturday and got a call from her later that day. I will let you know when i finalize my plans. By the way, I agree with Auralei. Your daughter is beautiful and the scenery so breathtaking. Love the hot air ballon pic, the snow and the beautiful flowers. Thanks for sharing them.
